Golfers: Anyone still play with the old Ping Zing/Ping Zing 2 irons?

My primary set of irons is the 2006 version of the Calloway Big Bertha. But, I lost my 6-iron a few months ago and bought a 6-iron Ping Zing as a temporary replacement (it was only $4).

The strange thing is that I hit that old Ping Zing better than any of my 2006 Bertha's. I'm thinking I should go ahead and buy a set of Ping Zing's on ebay.

Does anyone still play with them? If so, how do you like them? I am a 9-handicap. Any help or advice is appreciated.

It doesn't matter what anyone on this board says/thinks. If buying those irons will make you a better player, then get them.

Hell, I'd play with hickory shafts if I thought they would help me play better.

The Zings were ahead of their time and are still a solid club. New tech has passed them by. THE ONLY club to buy right now is the Calloway Razr X irons and driver. Totally amazing. I dropped in 30 days from a 9 hc to a 5. Youre cheating yourself if you dont try these.

The ping eye 2's berrylium copper irons still go for like $600 a set on eBay because they are still some of the best irons made.

How many rounds did you play to determine that? I normally do twenty rounds to reset my handicap.
I was unimpressed with the Razr X driver. I can't stand the way a Callaway driver sets up at address. The face sticks out too far.

+1. Never been able to hit a Callaway driver well. Titleist driver has been my goto for quite some time.

15 rounds. The thing is that Ive been putting like shite! Yeaterday on the front I hit 8 greens with 3 birdies and shot 37! Had 3 3 putts and missed a couple makeable birdies.

You know it could be adjusted at purchase? Anyways it works for me, added about 15 yards and Im hitting alot more fairways. Everyone has a different taste in drivers though.

The huge difference has been in my iron play. I love the Razr irons!

My dad bought some Ben Hogans around 1961. I played with a cheap set as a kid till the late 60s and then gave up golf.

Dad died in the 80s and I took his old set home after the funeral. Then, in 2002 I decided to take up golf again and grabbed dad's 1961 Hogan set.

When I walked up to the clubhouse a guy said, "You really shouldn't play with those. They are valuable antiques. They were all hand made and should be left to your kids."

I played a round with them and then bought some new clubs. Gave the old set to my adult son with strict instructions never to play with them.

I've played with my Ping Zing 2's for the past 6 or so years. Although they were a great pair to get me started on the right track, I've always wondered how I would play with a set of Ping Eyes. Played with them once and hit much straighter and longer than my Zings.

So overall I guess I'm slightly mixed.

Now that really is a cool story.

this.

As of 4 years ago..... I saw a pro golfer at the Shell Houston Open. I cannot remember his name but he is a fatter pear shaped guy. Average tour player. He had the newest Ping BAG and apparel, but when he pulled his clubs I noticed an old Ping Eye 2 Orange Dot I believe.

I am shopping on Ebay today for an old 2-iron.

Question of my own. The "Black Dot" are set for just "standard" lie etc???

Yup. Black dot is the standard club settings.
You can get standard, then take it to Edwin Watts and they will fit watch club to you for $4 a piece I think.

Have a set of Ping Zings, and a set of I3's. Only play with the Zings. I keep thinking about getting a new set of irons, but cant force myself to part witht he zings. I love them.

Here is another ping irons question. My dad has a set of Ping I3's Orange dots that are in great shape, but he never plays. The online color code has me playing up to the white dots. Would it be a waste to try and play the orange dots when there is such a discrepancy? Looks like orange is made for shorter golfers while I'm 6'2.

I have got a Red Dot one of these, but would never even think of selling it. I hit it great.
