I know some of you are closet DW fans. Thoughts on the new installment?

haven't played it yet. Hoping it is better than that cloned travesty that was 6.

I'm sure it's the same as the previous 6. If i wasn't some strange kind of sinophile, I wouldn't consider playing any of them. I will wait until 7: empires comes out to test the waters.

Why have they made so many? Every game is a clone of the other..

1. Koei doesn't really have the talent or resources to make anything else

2. In the Eastern world, gamers will buy a game simply because of franchise prestige. Quality doesn't necessarily matter (see: Final Fantasy). Only longevity and name recognition matter. Also the reason the Japanese typically shun western RPGs.

I see your point, but the FF series isn't all exactly alike though. They change up the battle system and such. Every single DW game that I've played is a carbon copy..

The Dragon Quest franchise is similar in that all of those games are alike. But I love all of those DQ games. At least with Final Fantasy, SE has the balls to throw out old conventions and try something new with each iteration. It might not always work, but at least they try to be different

Dragon Quest is a better example, but I think it evolves more than it gets credit for. I was referring more to FF as a series that keeps getting worse yet mindless fanboys lap it up.

I played the old Romance of the Three Kingdoms games on SNES and when I went to blockbuster back in 2002, I saw a game called Dynasty Warriors 3 and I read the back panel, and said OMG they made an action game out of ROTK and I was hooked ever since.

Until last year when I dumped all my old games to make extra money for my eurotrip, I had almost every game Koei ever made in my collection. I miss not having DW3, ROTK7, Iron Triangle, and Samurai Warriors 2, but I suppose I can manage.

I heard they changed a lot of things up. 6 was a fairly big let down, so I'll wait until 7 comes down in price. 3 was the best imo.

6: Empires is a decent game. The mild strategy aspects keep it fresh for a while.

I've got it and it is an improvement to the last dynasty warriors. They went back to their normal battle system and not the renbu stuff.

Also they changed story mode to where its just the kingdoms story not the chars. So in essence your going into lets say the yellow turban rebellion you have to play as lui bei if your playing as shu. That's the main con to the story mode but the huge pro to it is really in depth on what happens to each kingdom and is by far the best at explaining the story of each kingdom. It will take you hours to complete the story mode with each kingdom.

another annoyance is you can't get better horses in story mode.

Then you have conquest mode which is substituted for free mode. You have missions you can pick from and all the chars have certain missions that only they can do. It is fun to complete the challenges. There is an online mode for this if you wanted to play with friends.

Many new characters in the game and a new kingdom called the jin kingdom which has sima yi and a bunch of his kids in it.

The weapon system still needs to be worked on but there are more weapons. They did it to where a certain weapon has certain types of moves and it's not based on the character. They also have a system to where all the chars have 2 weapons they can switch around during a battle. So you could have Zhuge Liang using a sword instead of his fan. All the characters have 2 mousou attacks.

The game isn't difficult unless you put it on hard. You might want to start out on normal to get some good weapons but if you want a challenge start playing on hard and I haven't even tried to tackle chaos yet.
the soundtrack is still $$ plus the graphics in game aren't the best in the world but they are still good. The cut scene graphics are very good.

all in all this is a big improvement to the last dynasty warriors.

I have always thought it funny that in the past 6 DW games, they never included the Jin dynasty which is the dynasty that usurped Wei and actually united the land.
