And I hope this is what Joe Alleva is working on.

This guy is just what we need.

Be a good hire. I want all sports to succeed!

Football
Basketball
Baseball
Women's Basketball
Softball

No reason LSU shouldn't be competing for shot at SEC title every year in these sports.

Sure, it would be nice for the women's basketball team to succeed, but I can't justify spending a truckload of money to get a "great" experienced coach for an essentially non-revenue producing sport. If LSU spends close to a million dollars for a women's baseketball coach then it's likely the TAF fees for football will continue to skyrocket. Someone has to pay for this million dollar women's coach and it aint Joe Blow at the local Wal-Mart buying 12 LSU t-shirts

Do basketball season ticket holders pay the same kind of (probably on a smaller scale) TAF fees that football season ticket holders pay? Is the fee based on location of tix like football? Just wondering because you did bring up a valid point about the money for a salary like that will have to come from somewhere. Not saying LSU shouldn't go after top flight coaches, in all sports, to continue to build upon the championship tradition in the entire AD. I guess TAF is the necessary evil in the world of being a totally self-sufficient AD that does not have to rely on state monies to fund the AD-a state that is already sucked dry & taking hits in the education dept while still funneling monies to 2nd & 3rd rate athletic programs.

We were spending $700,000 already and drawing 3000+ to the games.

The truckload, for women's BB, pulled away from the curb a tad ago.

Now it's, we were elite, 5 trips in a row the the Final 4 just a couple years ago, and do we want to stay/get back there or not?

I have to wonder....how out of touch with reality had Pokey become that she would waste/throw away what she had going on at LSU!!

The potential to produce revenue is there. Make a profit?? NO. Produce a few hundred thousand dollars a year? ABSOLUTELY. In rough terms, if you increase attendance by 1000 per game (which is NOT unheard of here...it has happened), you can bring in about $200,000 in revenue which is enough to pay for a good coach. Do the math...1000 people at $8 per ticket over 15 games = $120,000. Those people are going to eat concessions and buy souvenirs, so $200,000 extra revenue that you didn't have before is not out of the question.

I think he would be a great hire...he is classy and runs a good program. I just don't see him leaving Louisville for here. The fan support there is great, he makes good money already, and he and the wife are from that area.

And he stutters. ESPN article. Would our fanbase welcome him or ridicule him? I can see the Rant already lining up their one-liners...

Agreed. Costs to the ticket holders went from cheep to middle of the road compared to other SEC schools.

At most schools women's b-ball is a net money loser but it can be not only profitable on its own but a help to the athletic department as a whole. Just look at Connecticut and Tennessee. Even as far back as the mid-80's Texas was the dominant program and they drew better than any men's team in the conference (disclaimer - I attended back then, women's ball was second only to football and up there with baseball).

It does, however, require a good bit of real investment in good coaches and facilities, just like excellence in any other sport.

Interesting.

However, I think the idiots that don't like the way Miles talks, have said they don't care about WBB anyway, so I doubt they'd take an interest.

Personally, I'm reminded about what Casey Stengel said concerning Yogi Berra when reporters made fun of the way Yogi talked:

"He talks okay up there with a bat in his hands."

Walz seems like he talks damn well on the coaching sideline.

I'm not saying it's absolutely certain he'd leave Louisville, but I think getting Walz is a lot more realistic than getting Mulkey.

This is an absolute ludicris way of thinking to me. We have a total of 2 sports...2... that turn a profit at LSU. So by your logic we should just be happy to invest everything into those 2 while we dont care at all about the other 20 something NCAA sanctioned sports? If we were to get a competitive snake charming team then I would want and expect LSU to hire the Nick Saban of snake charming coaches and I would want and expect LSU to kick everybody elses arse in the sport of snake charming. Its not about the money, its about the allure and mystic of LSU athletics.
