Whats everyones opinion on these two and their passing accuracy coming out of college? Obviously JR had a missile for an arm and was decently accurate in college. His work ethic ultimately killed him. Total waste IMO. Newton more of a threat on the ground, but im not impressed with his throwing mechanics or accuracy either. Will his ability to run help him overall in the passing game? IMHO I dont think Newton will translate well in the NFL. Thoughts?

Ive got them as both black QB's that will go high in the draft. Thats about it as far as the way they play/played the game.

I think he has a shot if they don't try too hard to make him into a drop back passer. If you have a guy that can run you have to let him run.

They basically ruined Vick in Atl by trying to make him more of a drop back passer.

??? Decently?

Jamarcus had one of the highest completion rates in SEC history

67.8 5th All Time SEC for a season (2006)
61.7 9th All Time SEC career

Thanks Karma..lol. What was Newtons? Point being, JR was, as you pointed out, a good/great passer in college whereas Newton struggled at times. Without accuracy I dont know if Newton will make it. But then again, Vick has proven me wrong on that as well.

They both played in the SEC for a team with the nickname "Tigers".

I think Newton has a stronger work ethic and relates better to his teammates. And Newton has that Vince Youngian ability to just make plays happen with his feet which will always help.

Some one will take a chance on him.

Completed nearly 68% of his passes for over 9YPA. He was more than "decently accurate".

Newton's biggest obstacle will be learning to read defenses. If he does okay with that, he will be a great NFL QB. If he can't do it at all, he won't last long. His throwing mechanics are as good as anyone's.

I think Newton will be a better NFL QB, now will he go the way of Steve McNair or Vince Young. Mike Vick has had a good bit of success since going to Philly by being more of a pocket passer even though he still runs a great bit. I think Newton's passing ability is just simply over looked because of his ability to run. When he was forced to throw in college I think he was good, just not really good. They whole offense revolved around him following several lead blocks and let him get into space. He wasn't really asked to win games with his arm.

Newton is the next Russell. Overhyped overrated had one great year (Russell had two) and people are hailing him as the next coming. At least Russell was in more of a pro style offense.

He started one season at a D I-A school. Let's not act like he proved himself for multiple seasons. Let's also not pretend that he wasn't in a very unique, college-exclusive offense that has to no overlap with ANY NFL offense.
