His bio says he is from Nigeria so I wonder if that is just the English translation of his Nigerian 1st name.

Some parents really need to be slapped upside their head.

At least when a kid's name is something like "Serenity-Spring', like one chick I went to college with, you can at least put it down to her parents likely being burned-out ex-hippies.

However, naming a kid "God's Gift" just makes you an a-hole IMHO.

Great job taking into account that Nigeria is not nearly the same kind of culture that America is.

Considering the kid's playing in America and his name is listed as the English "God's Gift" as opposed to a regional African language's version of it, it's a reasonable assumption.

It seems like the kind of ego-centric thing that people in this country would do to give their kid a unique name.

WVU had a guy on their team named Dalton Pepper. I thought that was pretty great.

I always have been a fan of Dick Pole, Rusty Kuntz, Assol Slivets (skiier), and Phyllis Mangina (random college coach).

My wife teaches in a district with a large Nigerian population. All of their names have meaning along these lines, so its not that odd of a name from a Nigerian point of view. And he did Americanize it by putting it in English instead of Nigerian.
