Denzel Devall, the hybrid DE/OLB from Bastrop (La.) High School, added a recent offer from the Oklahoma Sooners. What are his thoughts on the OU offer? Which school might offer later tonight? Read further to get the details.

"Oklahoma offered me last week," said Denzel Devall. "They're looking at me for the hybrid defensive end/outside linebacker position, which is a great fit for me. I can drop (into coverage) and run, and I feel comfortable at that position.
"It feels great to get that offer. I wasn't expecting any more. I was ready to shut it down, but now I'm going to have to look at this new offer and then go from there. Every time I would think I was going to get a chance to sit back, evaluate the schools, and then commit - more offers would come."

Devall is currently busy with both baseball and track.

"Oklahoma wanted me to come to their Junior Day, but I don't think I'm going to be able to make any more Junior Days. I'm deep into baseball season now and we're doing good.

"I'm also throwing the discus. It's the track and field event that I'm dominant at...I have to make a choice on Friday, because we have a baseball tournament, as well as our first track meet. The coaches allow me to decide which one I'm going to do."

Last night, Devall received good news when former BHS offensive coordinator Thomas Bachman was named head coach of the Rams.

"He was my personal choice for the job," said Devall. "I had a great relationship with him when he was the OC, and we've continued to talk every other day after he left (Bachman took a job at Calvary Baptist a couple of months ago).

"He's an even better person than coach. It's a wonderful feeling to get him as the head coach. We're going to have a great season."

Any program that wants to land Devall will have to thwart the efforts of TCU.

"I love everything about TCU," he said. "It's a private school with a great education. The 15-to-1 student/teacher ratio is what really stands out to me. You can build a relationship with your teachers. That stuck out more to me than them being No. 2 in the nation in football."

TCU is concentrating hard on northeast Louisiana. The Frogs signed West Monroe DT Chuck Hunter last month and procured a commitment from Hunter's teammate, DE James McFarland, last week. What does Devall think about the idea of a TCU front four that's comprised of three players from northeast Louisiana?

"That sounds nice," he said. "James is a great player who I've seen at most of the camps I've been to...he's my buddy and a hard worker. We went to Alabama football camp last year, and that's the best camp there is...we got in shape and I'm going again this year. It will help me get sharp and in top shape."

Devall plans to call the staff at Illinois tonight, so it's likely that his next offer could arrive later this evening. He was planning to visit Arkansas last weekend, but that fell through when Bastrop's girls basketball team reached the state finals (which were held on the same day).

"The girls had a perfect season," said Devall. "They were 30-0 and then lost in the championship game by eight points. I went to support them. I'm very proud of them. They beat Jennings by 20 points in the regular season, but lost to them in the finals."

I'm going to get involved, more later. I'll drive back one day next week and find out. His dad worked for me last year on a building/real estate construction project. I'll tell the rant what I find out. It worked on Rubin Randle and Josh Downs, we'll see.

Why is coach Stud recruiting this kid for LSU instead of Wilson or Haley?

I'm not worried about TCU. Let him experience the atmosphere of game day at LSU and he will be all purple & gold.

I thought LSU offered? Haven't broken down film on him yet but TCU is making a move on N Louisiana. I know we can't take everybody.

Not sure why any kid from the south would sign up to play ball in the Big East.

You're entitled to your opinion, of course. Personally - I'm not sure why any kid from anywhere would sign up to play ball in College Station.

I was unimpressed with his athleticism in the film I watched.

Who really cares? He's not on anyone's Watch list and a 3 star when rankings come out. A talent no doubt, but TCU and similar schools typically gets kids we don't recruit as hard. Did anyone really expect LSU to sign all 7 LBers in this class. If we get either Devall or Phillips, I will be excited about the 4 LBers in the class.

I really wish someone reliable, not Dandy Don, would release Louisiana rankings, so I would know whether to be pissed or not. Outside of Landon Collins, Trey Granier, Edinburgh, and Terrell Lathan; the rest of the top 20 is close or I'm uneducated on the rest..

TCU is doing a great job of honing in on those talented LA recruits that are flying just under the radar and falling through the cracks.

Here is a quick lesson. Guys that get early offers from our staff, we want more so than guys that get offers later. Devall is a top 5 player in state.

I'm really getting tired of this from TCU. do players not realize they can get a tutor for each individual course he takes at a big school?

Tired of the small class sizes? That would be like TCU folks complaining that they're tired of LSU's big stadium.

He's a smart kid and his Mom is an educator.

Generally tutors are for students who need tutors.
