Anybody upset that he is still our recruiting and pitching coach? He is the heart of our recruiting and I think it is showing early in the season. Hope he somehow stays for a long time.
Just find it amusing after many were calling for his head last year....
Thanks Coach Grewe!

I want him as part of our coaching staff and I think he is a great recruiter!
As for being the pitching coach.......

The pitchers obviously did not get the help they needed last year as evidenced by the outstanding performances of Ranaudo and Ott in the summer. The young arms look great though

He can recruit but can he "improve" talent once it gets here? Very few pitchers who make it to a place like LSU are ready to go as freshman, there are some exceptions, so what really needs to be looked at is, sure almost anyone can get talent to come to LSU but can the pitching coach make them better once they are here? I am VERY impressed with the young arms we have this year but last years pitching failures still make me wonder if there was something missing. Most of these guys who struggled last year, ie. Ranaudo and Ott , were lights out in the summer leagues. Kinda makes you say hmmmmmm? The guy can recruit, just not sure he is the best pitching coach.

Ott...I think he had a mental problem brought on by his long stint (7 innings) in the extra inning Alabama game followed up by his one start. It really messed with his mind, I think.

I was told from a pitcher on the team that every pitcher Grewe taught the cutter to had to have tommy john after the season.

a cutter shouldn't cause those issues. Maybe a split finger, but not a cutter.
Also, 2 pitchers out of a whole staff needing tommy john is not really out fo the ordinary. Just dumb luck.

Wood bats and less pressure in summer ball and more time for Renaudo to heal had alot to do with their performances which were outstanding. If this young staff gets better than we will see what kind of pitching coach he is. If they keep improving we will end up in Omaha.

Matulis is having TJ too. But he is at UCF now.

A cut fastball shouldn't mess up your arm. If you throw it wrong, it's not a cutter.

Not very big on context clues are you? I was adding Matulis to the list.

I could see it in person last year at the Regional in L.A. It wasn't coaching that was the problem. The pitching staff had NO talent last year. They were bringing guys in that shouldn't have even been in uniform at LSU from what I could tell.

a tad early for these HA HA type posts don't you think? Staff looks much better early on, but let's get a few more weeks into the season before crow needs to be served.

I agree with you on that one Tiger in NY. The talent level wasn't what we are used to at LSU, as far as the pitching goes. Ranaudo's injury hurt us BIG TIME & from there, no one really stepped up. Ott went through a meltdown to end the year & nobody is really sure why-girlfriend problems, injury, messed up from the start & long innings-all of these were "reasons" thrown out there. Fact is, I think MLB took a toll on the pitching staff & recruits & it finally caught up to us & bit us in the rear. I don't know if another pitching coach would have done much better with what Grewe had to work with but I was concerned about the lack of progress, & a seemingly rise in regression some of the pitchers made. The year is still early but I like what they have showed so far, is it Grewe, is it a rise in talent?

Really? Ranaudo was hurt most of the year here and just got healthy enough for summer. And the whole wooden bat/aluminum bat thing might have a little to do with it. And Ott just maybe needed a break and a fresh start after a tough season to clear his head. But let's blame all of this on the pitching coach because the popular thing to do is bash the coach.
Oh those knowledgable and classy LSU baseball fans...they really know their baseball.
Ok I will stop now.

absolutely true. The only reason there is some early success is because of weak early opponents and incoming guys being really good.
Trying to throw a cutter taught by a catcher is one of the best scenerios for arm problems.
