Does it mean the guy never gets beat deep? The receiver never gets thrown to?

they "shut down" a receiver or an area of the field. Ball will rarely be thrown their way.

It means he "shuts down" or makes the person he is defending have little to no impact on the game.

A shut down corner is one who pretty much takes a receiver away. Usually are strong, fast, physical guys who can bump and run in man coverage and takes the perfect pass to be beat.

This is in line with what I was thinking. "Shut down", sounds so absolute - as if to say the receiver will never catch a pass. But the receivers are at an advantage because they know where they are running to, when the ball will get there, etc. All corners are going to get beat, but, the ones that can take away (for the most part) their side of the field are what I would consider a shut down corner.

Champ Bailey, Charles Woodson, Derrell Revis, Devin McCourty, Nnamdi Asomugha, and hopefully PP7 one day!

It is a guy that every QB keeps an extra eye out for since his WR is going to be blanketed the whole game. They are the guys you don't throw at because they rarely get beat and they shut down the WR all day.

This is impossible. Even the best get beat sometimes.

It has a lot to do with perception and QB's electing not to come to your side of the field, and if they do they are either extra careful with ball placement and throw uncatchable balls, or you are in their head and they make mistakes.

The only reason I wouldn't is because he gambles a lot and gets beat because of that. He also has trouble handling the elite WR in the NFL. However, he is still a great CB to have on any team.

What trainers tell the LSU coaches to do when PP7 gets cramps.

Revis-defines shut down corner
PP7- could be next Revis

Eh I don't know. Pretty sure he only had 6 interceptions all year and 4 came in one game against the interception machine man himself Jay Cutler

Peterson isn't anywhere close to the guys mentioned above. Not yet at least. Just because of all his hype people forget all the times he got burned. Bama sure as hell didn't fear him and neither did Penn St last year.

If you make it to where the QB only throws the ball 2 or 3 times a game in your direction then that is considered shut down to me.
