From everything i have heard and read he is not very happy about the move.. What do you think it means for guys like McLouth, Schaffer, and Hinske? NM and JS are more CF guys but Mclouth has a decent contract and JS at one time showed tons of promise. do you think they move one?

LINK

sorry if there aren't any braves fans in advance.

Did he not expect this move coming when the trade for Uggla was made???

As for Hinske, he wasn't going to start anyway and Schafer will probably never put on an Atlanta Braves uniform ever again. Hopefully McLouth cleared his demons from last season because we need him in center and as a serviceable leadoff guy.

yeah, that was the main point of the thread. All the trade rumors i have heard include multiple players such as minor and jurrjens... i wish they would just get ride on JS. I have never been a big fan even when he was coming up and was the #1 guy and everything.

That's where I think his future lies with us.

I feel like they are being over courteous to chipper and maybe that is why he is mad.. I just wish they would trade for another OF (kemp would be nice).. and let prado be at 3rd

This news is Germans as hell. Heinske isn't even close to an everyday outfielder, Schaffer won't even make the team, and McClouth will get another shot to be the center fielder. We'll inevitably need another outfielder (Mather has a great chance to be the fourth outfielder) for when Chipper gets hurt and Prado moves to third. But really, what did you think would happen when we got Uggla? Put Prado, the most consistent hitter, on the bench?

That's total BS, especially for a guy who has played 15 seasons with the franchise in the Free Agent era.

Prado should learn something from Chipper. Remember he moved to Left Field when we got Vinny Castilla.

No actually figured that is what would happen and the article is more about how he came in today and said he was not happy about the move but would do whatever it was to help the team win.

It was really the first article i had seen with quotes from him about the move and i thought it was decently interesting.

It's only for a year with most likely around 30% of his time being spent at 3rd base anyways with the inevitable Chipper DL stint.

I'm sure he will get over it.

He was unhappy at first, as most All-Stars would be when asked to change positions, but you can tell by reading that article he's moved on and accepted it just as Chipper did a few years back. You'll notice I'm sure that all of Prado's quotes about being unhappy are in the past-tense. The fact he is at spring training a week early conducted solo workouts and eager to learn from anybody who can help him speaks a lot stronger about his attitude than a few quotes about how he felt a month ago in my opinion.

He's never once complained. Was he completely pleased with the Braves decision? Of course not, who would be, but he wants to do what's best for the team. It will only be for two years, maybe even just one.

Nothing changes for McLouth. He'll enjoy his last year of making decent money and definitely last season in a Braves uniform. I really want the Braves to go after Podsednik to serve as the 4th OF/starter by May or June after Nate starts suckin

Schafer's professional career is winding down. He came blame it on not being healthy and blah blah. Never been a fan of his. His hype came from one year in 2007 with every year before that was him being garbage and every year after he was garbage. Hopefully he can stay healthy this entire year and show us what he can do in a whole season at AAA. I actually hope he performs decent so his trade value will rise and we can package him with JJ at the end of the year.

As of now, Hinske has to like where he is. He's going to get a lot of playing time in games Chip is out or just needs a rest.

One things for sure, Prado to LF assures us of having one of the poorest infield defensive teams in the NL. Freeman will be our only saving grace.

I really don't understand forcing Prado to the outfield. He's far more valuable as an infielder. You're going to do this massive shuffle for Dan Uggla?

Prado is just holding the fort in left. He will play 50+ games @ 3B this year, and start at third next year. Chipper has 100 games at the most left in him.

Every year lately I kept on thinking it would be his last. I'm positive that this is the end though.

Yeah I didn't understand it either

I don't see why you'd let your one decent glove in the infield switch to left and replace him with a below average infielder. Not sure why they didn't want to at least give Uggla a shot out there. I guess just because Prado was already experienced a little bit by having played outfield in winter ball

Sadly I hope you're right

But he has another 13 million bucks waiting on him next year so if theres any way he can still at least be average, he'll play again

But on the other side I actually kind of hope he stays healthy most of the year and can come back next year. We'll be losing our SS,CF, and LF if Chipper leaves and that's a lot to replace

It's simple really. They wanted to sign Uggla to a multi-year contract and Uggla wasn't interested in being moved to LF.

And yeah, I think the fact that Prado has experience out there and Uggla has none, makes it a reasonable move as well. Not to mention with Nate roaming aimlessly in Center it might be more important to have a capable LF'er that can cover some ground. Uggla is capable of playing 2B, but we don't know if he's capable of playing LF at all. I think Prado might look pretty good out there.

I'm curious to watch Uggla play 2nd. The extreme fluctuations in his defensive metrics are strange. I really have seen enough of him to make my own judgements yet. Won't be long now though!

meh

he has had at least a -7 UZR 3 out of the last 4 years, including a -11, which would put him in the lower 15th percent.

But yeah, I'm sure that was part of the deal to sign him to a long term contract
