Remington 870 Express vs. Wingmaster

Other than the Wingmaster costing twice as much as the Express, what are the real differences between these two?

I am looking to buy my first shotgun. I'll use it for shooting skeet and an occasional duck hunt.

TIA!

Express is very servicable, but swings like a 2x4

Wingmaster swings much better and feels much more solid

Neither will ever jam, but you will notice the difference between the two

When you go look at them. Look at the action. Very big difference along with the finish product. Now,being your firt shotgun, how often you planning on using it? If I were to go out and buy a new gun, I would drop the extra coin for a wingmaster. I can afford it. If you can, do so.

I own 3 wingmasters along with 1 express that the wife gave me a few years ago that has the 3 1/2" chamber. What I found is that using the express with 3 1/2" shells, its hard to load. The open at the mag port is just big enough to fit a shell in.

I used that gun for duck hunting at times and never had a jam. Oh, one can use it as a boat paddle if need be, dump the water out and it will still shoot!

Most obvious difference is the stocks. Express is a polymer while the wingmaster is finished wood (walnut maybe?). I can't comment about the action or swing through because I don't own one, but I had was in a similar predicament and had my heart set on a wingmaster as well. I never ended up finding one at the price I wanted.

Like they said, finish is different. The Wingmaster has a Walnut stock and blued barrel whereas the Express does not. Whenever I bought my Express I left the Wing at home. Express was lighter and I also used mine as a boat paddle/walking cane for mud because it is cheap enough to buy a new one if it fricks up but it probably won't.

I bought my wingmaster from years ago from a friend for 100 bucks. I felt bad because he said his grandpa gave it to him. He wanted to sell it so I bought it. Love that shotgun.

I'm done with wood on guns, so I'd buy the Express, even at the same price point.

I may use it once or twice a month shooting skeet. Also, 2-3 times a year duck hunting.

My usage may increase, but I am just getting into the outdoor sports scene.

I want a wood stock. The black synthetic just doesn't appeal to me. I've heard the express has a wood stock option as well. Is that true?

Where would be the best place to buy either of these guns?

You can get an Express with wood stock it's just not as nice of a stock as the Wingmaster is all. Go to Academy. Haven't checked lately but probably somewhere around 300-400 (less than 4 for sure) for a 12 gauge Express. I would definitely suggest the Express for your first shotgun. You can use it for anything and once you're used to it you can get into semi-autos and what not and see what you like.

Also, Benelli Nova is a pump and is at Academy for about $370 I think. Great gun also.

Benelli Nova
When my BPS started giving up, I had to choose between the Express and the Nova. The Nova has a smoother action, so i picked it. Love it so far.

I am/was a life long Remington man, saying that I would not recommend buying either. Ever since Remington was sold to Freedom arms they have gone to junk. My lil bro has an express, It was broke from the factory, returned it to get fixed, get it back and was still broken. Also has had feed and ejection problems. Older Remingtons are awesome, I have an 1187 that I love and never gives me problems and its been through 7-8 hard duck hunting seasons and thousands of rounds at doves.

I own both and the action on the wingmaster is much smoother. By action i mean pumping, for any reason, reloading, shooting, whatever. the wingmaster feels like it has been buffed inside it or something.
