I saw a few months back where you farkers helped a ranter out by restoring a picture of his uncle that had some signs of age in it.

Well, I have come to the Fark Board to ask for the same help and expertise that I saw y'all apply to his picture.

My sisters husband is from Peru and only has one picture, that wasn't destroyed by the flood in Peru, from his childhood. If you wonderful farkers could please work your magic with this picture. My sister and I would very much appreciate it.

All that really needs to be done with it is you can see on the right side of his face there is a black looking smudge on the picture. If you could just remove that from it and keep it in black in white (and if you want turn it into color just for laughs).

I remember Timdalinger, catahoula, uringtruble, rattlehead, kinghippo and Hoodoowitch all had a significant hand in the restoration. (Forgive me if I left you out)

Thank you so much in advance for anyone who is willing to attack this job. Forgive the length of the post.

Can you scan it in at a higher resolution?

The larger the image - the easier it is for us to make accurate corrections so it can be "photo quality" again upon completion.

If you could do it so that it's somewhere in the 640x1000 range... perhaps just bump up the dpi when you scan it... Also - I noticed the white border on the right. If there's a border all the way around the picture - get it all in the scan. I LOOOOOOOOVE antique edge textures. I'm off tomorrow - I'd be happy to put some work in for ya (on the image provided if unable to post larger).

That's a beautiful photo. I'll be happy to work on it. Like Yurinbroubl said, a higher resolution scan and the full border would be excellent. If you can't do that, let us know and we'll go to work. I've loved these projects because it's brought out the very best of all of us on this board.

I really appreciate it. I will go to my scanner and see if I am able to bump up the resolution.

How can I make the photo larger?

Rattlehead, I noticed you re-posted the picture, did I do it wrong? I use to be able to do it straight from Facebook, but now that they changed the format to view pictures I couldn't get to the properties of the photo. When I re-post it, what is the best way to make sure it shows up correct for you guys?

I'm a sentimental guy. Think it would be terrible to have all reminders of your past wiped out. Hope this helps

Just turn up the .dpi before you scan. Typically a scanner defaults to 100dpi if not selected manually. I'd say up it to 150... even 200dpi if the option is available. Leave a little space between the image and the edges of the scanner - It will show up as white space. We can crop it down.

In order to cut down on the load time lag I think this thread will be experiencing once final versions get posted - You can just post a link to the Imageshack page you have it loaded to.

I used the eyebrow, cheekbone, and some hair from the left side, altered them and reversed them for the right side of the face.

Other than that just a whole lot of airbrush and imagination

Oh, and I had to get a coworker to stand under a light to figure out how to shade in the chin as it was completely obscured

They say it on Mythbusters after they finish busting a myth. I know its a stretch but you filled the request so quick, you busted it. Its done, finished, in the archives.

That looks great KingHippo. Thanks!

Hopefully, I should have the higher resolution picture up soon.

I look forward to the rest of the restorations.

Many people know of the Mayan Crystal Skull doomsday prophecy of 2012. Few, however, know that in addition to 13 Crystal Skulls, there are 13 Duct Taped Goat Horns scattered throughout the world. The first was found in Mississippi. Now we know of a second one in Peru.

Will all the Crystal Skulls and Duct Taped Goat Horns be found by 12/21/2012 and save us?
