ZERO recruits from LA in the rivals top 150 for 2011. ...I guess my point is this downward turn may not be over for awhile. Why is there less talent in LA compared to surrounding states of similar size? (MS, AR, AL)

Basketball recruiting is such a sleazy process. I hope Trent knew what he was getting into when he left Stanford. Is he "connected" into the AAU circuit? Are his assistants?

I think it's safe to say that we need an ALL HANDS ON DECK recruiting effort. The evidence suggests we're fading, not reloading.

Therin lies some of the rub.

Trent is not sleazy. From my persective he has more integrity than the vast majority of basketball coaches at the D-1 level.

He will not work through the AAU pimps and sewer dwellers. He'll deal with the players and their families but won't deal with the "World-Wide Wes's" of the wold like Calipari will gladly do. I suspect that's why his relationship with CT2 has cooled considerably from the time CT2 was taking credit for the hiring of him until now.

Can he win here with that phiosiphy? Can anyone?

I don't know but he better hope O'Bryant, who is a legit national recruit and really Trent's first, Isaac and Hamilton can play and play well right away or he may not make it past next year and I wouldn't be all that upset if he didn't if next year is anything like the last two.

We have a terrible team because Trent is not a sleezy recruiter. Thats what this thread seems to indicate. Total bullshite. And Isaac will not be a game changer. He plays for a small school in a small rural district that will in no way prepare him for sec play. He is tall for his district and plays an inside game at 6'4". Not going to happen in sec.

That's not what I said. I have from day one and numerous times stated that Trent poorly evaluated and over-compensated for APR on his first four scholarships. That's on him.

Can't tell me there aren't SunBelt and similar level kids that are better than said four that wouldn't have killed to play here and could've made the grades. Trent can logically be called on the carpet for his talent evaluation.

IMHO he has done better since. Isaac has done well when he's played up in classification not just against lower levels.

The fact that Trent is not a sleazy recruiter is just that. It's not an excuse for the poor evaluations he's made in that context.

We are in this situation because of Brady. Given time, TJ will turn this program around.

I'll concede that Brady left little behind the seniors, but the statute of limitations on blaming Brady is running out.

I count 8 players on the roster that are directly attributable to Trent.

Now I understand not wanting to go JUCO, but Trent went so far the other way in looking toward the future, with some poor talent evaluation along the way in his first four schollie awards, that he totally sacraficed two years.

I'll grudgingly give him next year before I jump ship, but IMHO it didn't have to get this bad before it got better.

How many of Brown's players were on the roster in Brady's third year? That team went to the final sixteen. Your blame game has zero credibility.

This type of argument just proves to me that you are utterly clueless. It's amazing to me that Glen Davis was able to even make it to the NBA considering he played at a 2A school. According to you, he was not even prepared for the SEC, much less the NBA, because he went to a small little school in Louisiana. And don't even get me started on football prospects.

I don't follow basketball recruiting very closely, but I would say one of LSU biggest problems is getting the good players in Louisiana to stay in Louisiana. Not just for Trent Johnson but for Brady. LSU couldn't land DJ Augustin nor Greg Monroe. Both guys were high NBA draft picks and had successful college careers. Langston Galloway and Pat Swilling both left LA and are both contributing to St. Joseph's (even though St. Joseph's sucks). Langston Galloway and another stud kid from Glen Oaks, I think his name was Brian Williams, both could have contributed to LSU this year. I'm sure their are other cases. Eddie Ludwig and Derenbecker are definitely not the top two Louisiana prospects over the last two years but that is all we have been able to land.

When LSU made the final four is was made up of a team primarily all from Baton Rouge. Maybe LA high school basketball is down, but IMO one of the biggest problems is not landing the key Louisiana recruits.

So we should have offered how many 2 guards last year? You named about all of them.

Swilling isn't doing shite at St. Joe's....Galloway isn't any better than Turner and Williams is redshirting at Ok. State....you also left out the best of all of them which is Markel Brown from Peabody....unfortunately for us 3 of the top 4 players in the state last year were 2 guards and Trent liked Turner better than all of them, so he went out of state....

Yeah, we are a two-guard away from dominance.

Like it or not, Ludwig and Derenbecker WERE the best two players in the state the past two years.
