It's a common practice called "re-casting" - it shows them what the company can do after current management is off the payroll mainly.

how does a company go about marketing themselves for sale. actually, it is part of a larger company.
I mean, they can't go pop a sign in front of the place or put an ad in the paper.
I have feeling the place I work is for sale.
It has several hundred employees so it would be a pretty big deal.
Where might you go to find this out for sure?
The things you might do to make a profit,
cut overhead, run lean, etc. are the same things you would do to make the business more attractive to buyers,
Right?

That's what investment bankers are for, finding people who will buy your business.
