What do the Saints need to do to have a decent rushing game? I feel like the offensive line is good, and I like Pierre Thomas and Chris Ivory running the ball; but it isn't working. What needs to happen to have a 100+ ypg rushing attack??

First off, this season isn't over.

Secondly, I think the main thing is keeping everyone healthy. Bush and Thomas got hurt, and it took Ivory a little while to earn playing time, and we had to endure Ladell Betts and Julius Jones
I think if they stay healthy, the Saints can have a rushing attack similar to what they had last season.

You cannot reason with some of those people. I used to be a Reggie supporter but this year he has showed us that he does not know how to run the ball. 8 million a year for a screen pass threat is way too much.

Agreed. Im ready to trade Reggie for the highest draft pick we can get. As far as rushing the ball, injuries did play a role, but before Thomas got hurt, he wasn't doing anything, and its expected that Reggie will not rush the ball well.

I agree, but for Sean Payton, calling rushing plays this season IS over. He is passing like 80% of the game, even when reggie and thomas played. 1st game of the year against the vikings i dont think they ran it until the 2nd quarter.

Everyone is talking about staying healthy, and i agree. But lets face it, even last year we were 27th in the league rushing the ball with only 94 ypg. This year Chris Ivory has 130 attempts for 683 yards, behind him is Thomas with 83 carries for 269. So even healthy, Pierre is only getting 3.2 yards a carry while Ivory is getting 5.3

Does anyone see a reordering of the RB depth chart for next season or is it a fluke that Ivory was doing so good?

I would just like to see Drew get a mental and physical rest every once in a while knowing that he can just hand the ball off and not worry about having to regain the yards.

The Saints bread and butter is the passing game and will always be what will win us championships as long as Payton and Brees are here. It would be nice but we don't need an AP or Chris Johnson type running back in our offense. Pierre and Ivory are the perfect compliment as far as ability is concerned..It's there health thats the issue we have had at RB, and has been ever since Deuce tore his knees up. We just need PT, Ivory or whomever to stay healthy all season and the production will be there.

Wrong again! It was actually Mike Bell that started last season off hot running the ball.

Pierre was hurt all preseason & missed the first two games. It was Bell who gained over 100 yards in the first two games of the season. Once Pierre got back against Buffalo, they shared the duties along with Reggie Bush.

Let's face it, there is a possibility that neither Thomas or Bush will be back next year. We heard rumors that Thomas wanted Stephen Jackson money this last Summer. If Thomas & his agent continue to want that type of contract, I think Payton & Loomis let Thomas walk.

Samething goes for Reggie Bush. If he refuses to resign for less, then he walks. Hamilton isn't guaranteed a spot either. Nobody is sure what Hamilton actually brings to the table because he's gotten so few snaps & will be coming off of knee surgery. Its possible he won't be back to full speed until midseason.

There's a high chance the Saints backfield is totally revamped next season. Ivory is the only solid for sure thing heading into next season. Payton & Loomis could let Bush & Thomas both walk & pick up a back like DeAngelo Williams in free agency plus pick up another back later in the draft. Of course how the Saints do in the playoffs will affect what they can do in free agency especially if they have to deal with the final four rule again.
