South Alabama's Courtney Smith in Senior Bowl

Courtney Smith (pictured below, #6) will be the first player in South Alabama history to play in the Senior Bowl, it was learned today. Despite playing against lower levels of competition, Courtney was able to garner interest from many pro football scouts, and the 6-5 New Orleans native will get his chance to showcase his talents against some of the best Seniors college football has to offer. He will always be remembered as the first player in South Alabama history to score a touchdown and play in the Senior Bowl, and potentially as the first South Alabama player to make it in the NFL.

He'll be remembered around Southeastern Louisiana for other things...hope someone warns his Senior Bowl teammates to keep all valuables on lockdown.

We played as an unclassified team in 2009 and this year. In 2011 and 2012, we will be an FCS Independent/Transitional FBS. In 2013, we'll be a full-fledged member of the Sun Belt.
