I wasnt expecting the fake punt...but...

Did anyone else wonder why Jasper was punting from our own 40 and not Helton?
It would have taken someone extremely savvy on the Bama sidelines to notice that and call a timeout. But i was asking friends in the room if Helton was hurt or something...was anyone else wondering the same thing?

But the point im making is that he's not our punter unless its a pooch punt. Why was he out there if it wasnt a pre-called fake?

he makes very good decisions and he was good at running the ball to. i saw a reallly good cut that he would have gotten past the defender if he were bigger.

I think Miles said after the game that if you see a fake that well blocked it's because it was called from the sideline.

I believe it was called before they went on the field.
I said that in the stadium. Right before we faked I was wondering why Jasper was punting in that field position. After the play, I wasn't wondering any more.

The field goal attempt that made it 14-13 was also a fake called from the sideline. After Bama stayed in their "Safe" coverage, Miles called the timeout. If you notice, Ridley was in on the FG attempt before the timeout and he is NEVER in on FG attempts.

When I saw Jasper I thought to myself this looks like a fake...I don't think it would have taken a genius to figure that out for Bama. But it did catch them off guard for sure.

Really...hmmmm....I didn't see that. Nice pick up. I'll have to take a look at the formation on my dvr replay watch Tuesday. He obviously was going to be involved in some devious trickery by Miles.

From what I understand, he they fake the toss over the head to Jasper and Helton shovels it to Ridley coming across from the right side. Would have been an interesting call. Either way, people need to realize that when LSU calls a fake FG or punt, they do not just say "frick it, lets run this thing!" There are specific looks for which they are looking, and unless they see that particular look from the defense, they will audible out of the fake. When a fake is actually called, it is only done when there is a high percentage of it working.
In fact, I believe Miles has a 100% success rate when it comes to fake FGs and punts. I cannot remember one fake that did not get a first down.

You're right. about when the 13-14 FG was going to be a fake. I didn't see it at first, but the guy sitting behind me noticed it right before the timeout

Part of the genius of it all is that Helton wears 38 and Jasper 30. You have to really be paying attention to notice the difference.
