Those at the game, wasn't the booing after this aimed at the refs? Seemed like something was going on with the refs/clock but the amazing commentating team of Lundquist and Daniels didn't talk about it and said something like "And the fans are booing the coaches not the refs." Just trying to make sure they are terrible.

This was at the Ref who went to sleep over the football. The Ref's will get a shite note from LSU and Les on this one.

Lets not get started with the lack of talent CBS has calling the SEC game. Where do you find two people to call the best football games in the country that do not have a clue about football. Vern and Gary.....is CBS for real.....not to mention Vern is an LSU hater from way back....

That whole fiasco made Lee look foolish and it wasn't really his fault

I dont think anyone was booing the team or the coaches at that point. Everyone around us knew the DOG penalty was going to get used/called. None of us were upset about it that's for damn sure..

i was there and it doesnt make sense that the coaches would be boo'd for a penalty. the time did seem way too short

Les is the head coach and could have called the T.O. as well

Ok.

Gary Danielson:

quote:

Playing career Danielson played high school football at Divine Child High School under Fred Hodges in Dearborn, Michigan, and graduated in 1969. He played college football at Purdue University and graduated in 1973. He succeeded Mike Phipps as the Boilermakers' starting quarterback in 1971, and had 30 touchdown passes and 14 interceptions with a 46 percent completion rate in 2 years as a starter.

Danielson spent two years in the short-lived World Football League as a non-starter, with the New York Stars/Charlotte Hornets in 1974 and the Chicago Winds in 1975. [1] The Winds franchise folded a month before the league's collapse in October, and Danielson signed with the Lions for the 1976 season.

He amassed 13,764 passing yards and 81 touchdowns in 101 games in the NFL. He ranks fourth in Lions history in passing yards and touchdowns. His five touchdowns in a 1978 game against the Minnesota Vikings is still a Lions record.

Verne Lundquist:

quote:

Early life and career Lundquist was born in Duluth, Minnesota. He graduated from Austin High School in Austin, Texas, before attending Texas Lutheran University (formerly Texas Lutheran College), where he also founded the Omega Tau Fraternity (ΩΤ) in 1958 before graduating in 1962. He began his broadcasting career as sports anchor for WFAA-TV in Dallas and in Austin, Texas for KTBC, as well as being the radio voice of the Dallas Cowboys. WFAA-TV is ABC's station, in Dallas, Texas. Lundquist joined the Cowboys Radio Network in 1967[1] and remained with the team until the 1984 season. He was paired with future (and now current) play-by-play man Brad Sham starting with the 1977 season, the year the Cowboys went 12-2 (winning the first eight games of the season) and captured their second NFL championship in Super Bowl XII. Nationally, Lundquist worked for ABC Sports from 1974 to 1981, then moved to CBS (1982–1995) and TNT cable (1995–1997) before returning to CBS in 1998. Currently Lundquist resides in Steamboat Springs, Colorado.

I'd say both of these guys have been around the game at a pretty high level, for a long time.

VL and GD mentioned later that the refs made LSU wait because they had made a personnel change on offense, so they gave Alabama "time" to make their own changes. They referred to Tennessee's NOT getting that same chance.

The problem was that we changed QB and the rules state that you have to give the other team time to respond to a personnel change.
If it was so important to get Lee in the game for that play, they should have called the timeout - especially since they could see the clock was obviously running.

Yeah, the ref still had his foot on the ball with 5 seconds left on the play clock... WTF?

The only QB change was from the punter back to Lee. I was there and Bama made a late substitution, long after Lee came back in. The ref saw them come in and then stood over the ball. The boos were definitely at the refs and Miles was going crazy over the call. From where I was sitting, the fans were excited to see Les get in their face. That was a horrible call.

The clock was fast too!

I agree the refs held them up too long and it was obvious that Bama was not trying to sub... that's what JL was griping at the ref about.
