The Jaguars took on fellow start-up Georgia State, coached by Bill Curry, at Ladd-Peebles Stadium in Mobile in front of more than 23,000 fans. True Freshman QB C.J. Bennett(pictured below, #15) made his first career start and did not disappoint, collecting 181 yards and 3 TDs. Bennett also contributed 80 yards on the ground. Fellow True Freshman Ken Houston (below, #29) picked up 175 yards on the ground and got into the endzone for the 8th time in as many games this year. As a team, USA had 293 rushing yards for the game, and 300 yards of total offense at halftime while leading 30-14 at the break. The Jag defense gave up some big plays to allow Georgia State back into the game, but South was able to hold off the Panthers for a 39-34 victory. USA improved to 8-0 on the season and 15-0 all-time.
Jereme Jones had a spectacular catch.

For those that don't already know about South Alabama Football...
We played as an unclassified team in 2009 and this year. In 2011 and 2012, we will be an FCS Independent/Transitional FBS. In 2013, we'll be a full-fledged member of the Sun Belt.

We also have games against Tulane in 2013, 2019, and 2020 (home game) and Mississippi (2017) not listed there and we're close to finalizing a three-game deal with La. Tech.

Congrats! Glad to see ya'll having success. When do you become a full fledged Sun Belt member?
Up here ODU just started their program. They'll stay in I-AA but they will be the only major player in the Newport News recruiting hot bed. Should be interesting

I'll have to think about that one. Hmmmm.....either this one or our 4th-quarter comeback at UC Davis.

No, but their 30,000 strong student body is pretty diverse.
