Ended up watching Murder by Death via NetFlix Instant last night. Had heard it was funny from a podcast I frequent so decided to roll the dice.

I have to say, though I am usually not too big a fan of farcical humor, this movie was so over the top that I just turned off my mind and enjoyed the hell out of it. Peter Falk, James Cromwell, Truman Capote, Alec Guiness, Maggie Smith, and Peter Sellers (wearing some the best/worst make up I've ever seen) make up just part of the huge cast.

It's punny, slapstick humor all built around a convoluted whodunit scenario, and it's hilarious. If you liked Clue then thank Murder by Death as it was clearly the inspiration (if not basis) for the film.

Anyone else seen it? Thoughts?

Yes, a link to a thread about Clue where the movie was mentioned a couple times but not discussed.

Hence why I created a new thread to discuss it.

I LOVE this movie. As I mentioned in the Clue thread (from a month and a half ago), my parents taped it from TV and watched it when I was elementary school. I love Mr. Wang's little words of wisdom. Great movie.

Yeah, next to Peter Falk throughout the movie and Alec Guinness hamming it up during the last five minutes, I think Wang's words of wisdom were the highlight of the film for me.

You think a movie could get away with putting a caucasian actor in that type of make up and pretending to make him Chinese for the sake of laughs today?

I have a bad feeling that if they remade it you'd see Jackie Chan playing Mr. Wang and killing a lot of the comedy that Sellers brought to the role. The prosthesis was half the jack as it was.

I loved the part where Truman Capote started going off on them about how terrible their novels were with plot twists, and adding characters at the end that were never in the rest of the book.

Mr. Wang was a spoof of the Charlie Chan character from the 30s who was Chinese-American so it's actually not too much of a stretch in that case.
