at the very least, we should have put the ball the center of field

before attempting the field goal. the ball was on the right hash, which everyone knows makes a difference. clocks or downs weren't an issue, i think he would have made it had he been in the middle of the field.

I've actually heard that Hartley prefers the right hash, ironically.
I just wish we would have tried to get closer on 1st and 2nd down; the Falcons were beat, their body language said it all. We could have scored.

It was said many times after the NFCCG that Hartley prefers the right hash. He even said it himself that the kick in that game was set up perfectly for him. I think its all in his head. Maybe this will be a wake up call for him much like the Tampa game last year. We shall see.

he pulled it from the right hash....

This is a good point. Even though Hartley likes the right hash mark, it was the same thing as an extra point which is set dead in the middle of the field.

which means if he'd been in the middle of the field the ball might have missed the fricking net entirely and landed in my section

not really, he wouldn't be trying to kick that hook if ball was in the center. But i got the point you were trying to make.

That's actually not how it works. Kickers kick straight as possible. The only difference a hash makes is that the 3 steps back are at an angle to basically aim for the center of the goal.
You never try to kick a hook as you seem to believe. So no, you didn't get the point he was trying to make. You line up on that hash and it gives him more room if he does pull it which has been an issue this season.

How would it give him more room to work if he's still kicking straight at the center of the posts from a kicking angle then? I don't think it really gives him any more room at all unless he's aiming kicking straight towards the right side of the post from the hash he's on and that nearly kills the whole angle thing you are presenting.

Well when you watch the replay closely it looks like he just sees the Atlanta defender out of the corner of his eye and it made him flinch and yank it. Could be totally wrong though.
