I couldn't believe they just didn't run it 3 times or try a screen pass to close em out or get closer. NEVER put everything on the kicker, especially one whom is struggling.

do you not remember Ivory fumbling earlier when just trying to get a yard?

because kicking it from that close has like a 90-something percent success rate. passing is a risk and our running game hadn't been all that successful.

good decision, poor kick.

Could have at least tried to get the ball to the center of the field...
Makes no sense, but he should have made that kick.......

Guess so. I just say hold on to the ball, put ur head down, and try to score. Kick on 3rd or 4th. O well

because it was a fricking chip shot that 31/32 kickers would have nailed

It was I think a 29 yarder. Almost every team in the league would have kicked it in that situation. Personally, I thought we were gonna run left to get it in the middle of the field but beyond that, kicking the ball is the call there.

You don't want false starts, or bad exchanges in that situation.

Ivory and Pierre were both injured in the 4th/OT.

ideally you run the ball twice and kick on 3rd down, but i dont think they wanted to trust Ladell Betts

After seeing that horrible attempt of a FG I'd just assume give it to Evans there and try to score. Or let the best player to ever wear the black and gold take 2 shots throwing it.

So he could have hooked it left by 10 yards instead of 5.

I'm assuming they asked hartley where he wanted the ball. Also assuming he wanted it on that hashmark. But I like most of you would think having it in the middle of the field would be better.

easy to say

Hartley kicked us "into overtime" with :04 left.

I'd have to say I trust the guy to make that kick right there.

And if a RB fumbled you would be posting why not kick the chip shot FG on 1st down

Kicking on 1st involved the least amount of risk, IMO

I was speaking in hyperbole. I knew the guy was struggling but also thought it was a chip shot that would be automatic. In hindsight of course we'd all just assume trust Brees... I don't think we need to cut the guy yet but bringing in some competition could work.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but wasn't the ball spotted on the right hash mark? And the kick missed wide LEFT...so how in the hell does this make any sense, trying to get into the center of the field?

On getting to center, it isn't like the kicker doesn't set up for it.

The assumption is most kickers want to be straight on so you don't have to start with an angle. So even if he hooks it left, he obviously would have set up a different line if in the center.

Hartley may have thought he wanted to set up to the right for a hook, but like all past or current golf slicers know, trying to correct your slice and aiming exaggeratedly to the opposite side is a recipe for more slice.

Hartley seems to yank everything left. How about we try the left hash for once just to see how it works out.
