It's kinda like having a fight with your wife - Take the piss and fire out of the argument and really analyze the problem. Here is what I saw -
Special teams play is probably the best in the history of the program.
Once LSU was up by 20, Coaches made a colossal mistake and took their foot off of the pedal. Not making any excuses, but it had been a long time since this Staff was in this position, and I think they forgot importance of putting the dagger in as quickly as possible. Crowton admits they got complacent with the play calling, and the massive substitutions on defense (26 men played) may have gotten the best of us. Take away UNC's 2 long pass plays where substitutions were made (170+ yds) and the numbers are much more respectable.
The offense showed signs of greatness. Preaching to the choir here, I know, but a controlled, short passing game of 4-15 yds in the 1st half is going to wear down any defense, which in turn will make your power running game much more effective in the 4th quarter. I don't know how to make the coaches realize this, but play to your teams strengths. The talent at the skilled positions is the strength of this team - NOT the offensive line.
This is a VERY young team, especially on defense. Claiborne, trying to make a play, bit on the double route and got burned for the 97 yd TD. Taylor didn't help the situation being out of position either. We are thin and inexperienced at LB, and the cheating to the line gave NC the quick 8 yd slant over and over in the 4th quarter.
Ridley's fumbles were the product of inexperience, not protecting the ball against live hits. Only his 3rd game as a starter. Ridley has sweet feet, and is going to be a great one. Hopefully he can learn from his mistakes, only time will tell.

In my opinion....the play that turned it was Ridley's fumble
It's 37-10 if we punch it in on that drive and UNC quits.
But having said this....our coaches still don't get it.

coming from one who can appreciate the 'fight with the wife' analogy, well stated...

Are you telling me this is the 1st game the kid has ever played? Fumbling is bad in middle school, high school, spring practice, and in college!
Ridley needs to call Jacob Hester and learn how to protect a ball...

Probably need to hold off on that statement until we play someone at full-strength. NC's special teams were depleted.

+1000 He is in his 3rd year, and is suppose to be a leader.
He will never be great....that is a big reach. I don't even think he is as good as scott because he doesn't have the power that scott had, nor the speed to break away. He should be benched. I thought murph was tearing up the pre-season practices....and ford needs to learn the damn playbook.

I'm not a coach, but Ridley doesn't get the start at Vandy...should be murphy, and ford...and Ridley better have to carry around a football glued to his hands all week.

Honestly, I was most disappointed in our secondary. We've been talking all season about how we're going to shut everyone's passing game down. We were TORCHED for over 400 yards passing while we managed a mere 151 with their 2 starting corners out. Gave up 2 huge TD passes and just looked inept at times. Our db's were nowhere near the receivers on those plays. That looked really, really bad. What gives on the secondary last night?

Really, I didn't know that, and thank you for pointing that out to me.
Inexperience can also take the form of trying to do too much without fully understanding the consequences of failure. Claiborne biting on the double route instead of keeping the receiver in front of him. Ridley trying to score a meaningless touchdown instead of running the clock out to end the game. THAT is inexperience. Trying to do too much with the football leads to problems, but thanks for playing.

Is it just me, or is this happening to often?
Also why did Murph get just one carry? I realize he did fumble but so did Ridley three times....

Nice post!
Now imagine y'all are playing and SEC teams first string and not an ACC teams second string.
I am not being a dick but I think your post is delusional and I understand that because I am a BAMA fan and always think we are going to wn the NC even when we had Shula, Dumbose, Price for a week, and everybody else.
Y'alls staff is pathetic.

I'm probably the most disappointed that Ford didn't get some carries, especially if you're going to go conservative anyway. Ridley looked good but had two extremely key fumbles...and it doesn't look like Murphy is the answer at this point. In addition, if you're going to burn Ware's redshirt, give him a shot...he may be the most talented of the bunch anyways

Ridley can really run... but you gotta hold on to the ball..
look for Murphy to get more touches next week and maybe Ford.
Also Mathieu, Loston, and Reid may see more action.
I realize that alot of people have sky is falling syndrome but I saw alot of thigns that I was very pleased with.
Our Offensive line isnt the best we have ever had but they are lightyears ahead of last year. We were actually able to sustain drives with the run... before fumbles.

This was probably the turning point of the game. It game UNC life. It inspired the second tier players, who aren't chopped liver by the way.

quote:i think Ridley needs to be third down back, and give Murphy and ford his carries. i though they would have split the carries but they didnt. ridley ran the ball 21 times for about 50 yrds. fumble or no fumble that dont get it done. murphy carried it twice and never got in rythm and that fumbles could have been challenged. but i think les miles is going to continue to give it to the big back

I am more concerned that we didn't hit more long passes. I don't know how many safeties you have on a team, but your DB depth chart can't survive the loss of 5 players (no matter how god or bad they are).
cornerback Charles Brown
cornerback Kendric Burney
safety Da'Norris Searcy

I am not feeling the fumbles. Ridley should be on a short leach

Return game is probably the best in the history of the program.
We missed a makable field goal and had a kick-off out of bounds, but I get your point.

Jacob Hester fumbled against Georgia in his first start in 04.
