In 2001, we signed Joseph Addai, Shyrone Carey, and Ryan Gilbert. Jacobs ended up at Coffeyville CC. He was 4A offensive MVP at Assumption. I'm assuming he didn't qualify is that correct? Or did he just get overlooked by everyone before going to Auburn then S. Illinois.

Thought it was because LSU wanted him to play defense.

Didn't know that, defiantly could have been the case.

dude had no chance of qualifying
I think Saban tried to recruit from JUCO as well, but wanted him at DE instead of RB which made Jacobs choose Auburn but the logjam there resulted in his leaving

Saban wanted him to play LB. He was ours to lose, but the mighty midget did not want to even hear about giving him a shot at RB. He went to Auburn and they had Cadillac and Brown so he moved on.

He didn't qualify and actually took some special ed classes in high school. In Juco he tore it up but most schools including LSU wanted him to play DE/TE. Toby always wanted to play RB and it looks like all of the choices he made throughout his career were right ones. His life and how he grew up is a success story.

I am happy for him. He sure would have looked good trucking people in purple and gold though.

I was told by a reliable source that Jacobs couldn't spell his name, thus no signing.

I recall reading that he was enrolled in special ed classes but didn't really belong there. Not sure if it was a case of laziness or poor oversight by the school. Probably both. He sure seemed to turn things around once he had a change of scenery.
