Ive watched both Phillip Ely(Alabama) and Justin Worley(Tennessee) this weekend. There is no way in hell Ely is a top 5 Pro-Style QB and Worley is not even ranked in the top 30. Ely looked like crap last night and is surrounded by some of the best talent in all of HS football. Plant HS is ranked #1 and #2 in the nation by Rivals and ESPN respectively. Ely threw for 154yds, 80 of which came on a swing pass that went for a TD on the first play of the game. He did miss most of the 2nd quarter with an injury, but his team was already down by a couple of scores and en route to getting blasted 48-10. He played the whole second half.

Stephen Rivers is on a team that has no O-Line and no skill players and they get blasted by Hartsell #5 in 5A in Alabama. Rivers goes 8 of 12 for 86yds 1 pick and rushes for a TD. Justin Worley is on a team that has a O-line and some good skill players. His numbers 22 of 34 for 314yds, 5 TD's and 2 picks, and they blast the team with the #1 player in the country (Jadeveon Clowney) 42-20. I also think Jadeveon Clowney's team is very good and is better than the Manatee HS team that rolled Plant.

I guess what Im saying is, I think Worley and Rivers are very similar. Check out their film. They are about the same in stature, Rivers at 6-6 is 2 inches taller and they both weigh 196 pounds. If Rivers was on a team like Worley's he could put up good numbers. I dont think his stats will be great this year, but I think we will be ok down the road, because I think his skill set is basically the same a Worleys and I think he is gonna be good.

IT WAS ONE GAME.

Plant looked like that last year against Manatee in the opener. Guess what? They won every other game, including a win over Manatee in the 5A playoffs, in route to a state title.

I think it's more than that capstone... Plant QB's still have a lot of questions to answer this year... Murry looked like shite in the SG, and Marve was awful at Miami.

It's starting to look like Plant is just a system that sticks an undersized QB in and he throws for 4000 yards or whatever.

Worley plays on a powerhouse Northwestern program that is always contending for championships. Clowney's South Pointe team didn't even deserve to be on the same field as them and the only reason it was televised was because of Clowney.

Clowney's South Pointe team was up 20-7 at the half until Worley caught fire.

Based on one game, huh? Ely was the "next best thing", until he didn't go to LSU.

This guy's abilities have been studied at plenty of camps. He wouldn't have the offer list he has, if there wasn't some serious ability to be a college QB.

Worleys line sucked.. he was getting knocked around like a pinball, he just hung in and made the throws or started throwing quicker..
He looked great..

Marve and Murray's lists were similar

Not really, many of us including myself were questioning taking Ely due to his size and the system at Plant.

There was a minor freakout when he didn't choose LSU. This is backtracking, just like with the Bradley Sylve decision.

The best case scenario would be as a redshirt senior, providing that A.J. and Phillip stay through their senior years.

A.J. McCarron would leave after the 2012 season, and Phillip Sims would start in 2013-14. That would give Ely a shot in 2015, his senior season. Of course, this doesn't include Jameis Winston, or any other QB Alabama could add in the 2012 recruiting cycle. That all being said, we know plans never go as scheduled, and any number of things could change. But, you can never have enough quality QBs on the roster.

Bradley Sylve is a very good player, but Im not taking a guy that cant stay healthy at the 1A level over guys like Landry and ODB Jr. And dont be surprised if he proves he can stay healthy LSU doesnt make a run at him.

I'm not questioning the talents of Rivers or Worley, or in the case of Sylve, whoever LSU replaced his potential spot with. I'm just saying that both Ely and Sylve were fairly hyped up, by more than a few LSU supporters, on this very board up until the point when they decided to go elsewhere.

It's Alabama or MLB for Winston. It depends on what his family decides. He has stated many times that college and football will come first, but we'll see what they do when a MLB franchise is throwing six or seven figures at him.
