It's in the stores now and on draft in some places in BR. Pretty good seasonal beer from the guys in Boston. Anyone else like it?

I've really started to like the Sam Adams brews. I haven't had Octoberfest yet, but I'm willing to give it a shot.

No. German style beer sucks for the most part....way too bland. Doublebocks are good and some Schwarzbier.

Agreed.
While all this bitter overly hoppy stuff has its place (although, I might argue it's starting to get a little bit overplayed), there's something to be said for a good clean German lager.

its not a complex beer by any means. I take it you dont like malty beers? For an oktoberfest, its a good one to watch a football game with. Its got a nice caramel malty flavor and a small touch of hopps. Oktoberfests are some of my favorite beers

Correct. And I'm not just a hophead. I really appreciate a lot of different type beers. I'm really into belgians lately....after my trip there this summer...Orval is my fav. But German Lagers, even with there maltiness, are just bland.

well, after a beer drinking expedition to Belgium i can see how a Sam Adams Oktoberfest might not be so exciting.

I love any Octoberfest beer...had a St. Arnold's yesterday, and hoping to try the Shiner one.

They make good beer. Some are even great. If you care about ratings, Beer Advocate gives the entire lineup an average rating of B, but there are some great ones. Good thing is it is widely available. Even if you are at a place that has a limited selection, they will usually have the Boston Ale, the Lager or one of the seasonal beers (now Octoberfest). These are far better and more drinkable choices than the usual Buds and Millers.
Anybody tried their Utopias?

I tried the Imperial Series Double Bock. it was very good. also it was around 12 percent abv

I want to try one of their Imperial Series or the Utopias, but I haven't seen them on the shelves around here.
Their staple lager and ale are not in my usual rotation, but like I said, even if I am at a restaurant with a limited selection, one of these will likely be available. The Boston Lager and the Boston Ale are good IMO.

I bought a 6 pack last week and like it a lot. Very easy to drink and very refreshing.

It is currently my favorite Oktobefest and the best Samuel Adams brew out there, (try it on tap) and I have tried most of brewery's products and would leave them on the shelf. The Samuel Adams White Ale, Coastal Wheat, and Winter Lager are decent for thier particular style and worth a try.
If you like Oktoberfest also buy Summit and Ayinger(German). They are my #2 and #3 at this time. Cheers.

10-12 years ago I liked it a lot, would buy 2 cases when it came out every season. Oktoberfest are supposed to be hearty beers, but I now find the Sammy too heavy and this is coming from a guy that loves porters and stouts. I do have a case of Spaten Oktoberfest in the fridge, it is lighter and has a good finish.

Wish we could get St. Arnolds in BR. I went to their brewery in Houston a couple of years ago and stocked up, but needles to say that is long gone.
I couldn't remember if Shiner had an october fest. I've really been into the Shiner's lately. The smokehaus is different, but good on the right occasion.
