all you negatigers and Miles bashers can spin it however you want to, but the kid has a choice, and all these schools do this. If he has his heart set on LSU then he would stay.

spin the horrid timing of telling the kid 24 hrs before he starts Fall practice after 3 months of busting his arse w/ his teammates after having been promised a full ride for the '10 season

It's too bad this happened the way it did. The timing is awful. LSU knew, or at least highly suspected, they would have a numbers crunch. They've been trying to manage this since at least Jan/Feb, when they asked Houston Bates to grayshirt.

I feel bad for the Porter kid. but if it wasn't him, it would be one of the others.

I don't know the particulars and Miles may have told Porter a long time ago this was a possibility. If he did, no big deal. But if this happened the day before starting practice without warning it doesn't impress me in the least. Would show me Miles doesn't have contingency plans in place.

Porter said first he heard ab anything concerning a greyshirt was Monday and never saw it coming. That's my point of contention, not that someone was greyshirted or that everybody does it.

If he told him the day before that is bad, does anyone know for sure when he told him. These other players just became eligible last week.

Out of the ones who really have no shot at freshman playing time, why not ask the kid of the "richest or more affluent" family to accept teh grayshirt?

So Les found out Monday that everyone qualified? Other schools might do this, but they don't tell a kid that's been working with the team all summer THE DAY BEFORE PRACTICE STARTS that he doesn't have a spot. Les supporters have always stood by him for being a standup guy. Well there goes the ONE thing he had going for him because this is a straight up douche move.

Why does money matter since he's not enrolling at all? They aren't asked to foot the bill. They're asked to not go to school.

How the hell do you know other schools don't do that, they sure as hell greyshirt and they sure has hell have to make some decisions that someone isn't going to be happy with.

I don't know that i would go as far as calling him a straight up douche. But, being a Miles defender, i do not understand why he would wait until now when, like you have said, he knew that there was a possibility that he would need to have 1 maybe 2 people greyshirt. It doesn't make any sense to me and I dont really know why this kid would still want to come to LSU, but i guess the fact that he is still thinking of coming must say something about Coach Miles. But again, in this situation, it doesn't look like Miles is treating this kid fairly

No they enroll in school and pay their own way for a semester. Can't participate in football activities and then join the program the next semester.

For starters I would have targeted 2 to 3 players that might be greyshirt candidates and let them know that if everyone is cleared, that x amount of people will need to be greyshirted. Second, I would have chosen one of the players that had trouble qualifying to be greyshirted. Would i rather have Gore than Porter? yes. But as far as I'm concerned you don't punish the kid that had everything in order from the get go and who has been on campus working. Building a program is a long game and I'd rather have a foundation of integrity. After all half the job is convincing parents that you are going to take care of their sons.

Volquest is saying now that Tennessee is not pursuing Porter.

It's a wacky situation

Those who think he handled it poorly most likely would have had agreements in place beforehand to avoid this type of circumstance. You prepare for the possible, no matter how unlikely it may seem to you.

This staff new since signing day that they were going to have to grayshirt two kids if everyone qualified. If they did not have any kids agree to it, then they should have told the two kids they were going to force to grayshirt, if push came to shove THEN that its their choice to take that potential option or go elsewhere.

It doesn't make Miles a douche, but it is still a douche move because he and the staff obviously didn't have their ducks in a row for this.
