U.S. raps on Asian shrimpers' doors after oil spill

As the Gulf Coast oil spill continues to gush, U.S. seafood suppliers are turning to Asia to ensure
Americans have enough shrimp for their gumbos, Creoles and cocktails this summer, but some of those overseas cupboards are low themselves.
Several countries in the world's top shrimp-producing region are struggling to satisfy their own appetites for shrimp because of disease, drought and the economic crisis.
The oil spill is one more factor driving prices skyward, sending a worldwide ripple through
an already tight shrimp market.

Asian shrimp
I think you're being a little overly dramatic.

it's the crawfish there that's terrible, the shrimp is bearable.

Sad thing is MOST Louisiana resturants already use Asian shrimp.
Thanks to contracts with either Sysco, Conco or US foods.
I think most people here would be suprised if they ever took a trip to the walk-in freezer in their favorite resturant.

Yes, or buy asian shrimp and have themo processed and and frozen in Louisiana. On the package it'll say processed and packaged in Belle Chase, LA. NOthing about asian shrimp on the package at all.
They do the same thing with crawfish, very deceiving.

The frozen crawfish tails I find in WalMart and Publix stores in Florida are branded as BOUDREAUX, but are Chinese. I refuse to buy them. We have a seafood store nearby that sells frozen tails from Spain. They are a bit more expensive, but I don't want my money going to China. I wish I had a local place that sold Louisiana crawfish. I would pay more because I would trust the quality of the product - but I can't find any.
