Season 2 is even crazier and it appears season 3 is going to be even better.

I can't help but laugh at times at the accents and the overdramatic acting at points, but I am hooked as well.

I wish HBO was putting the shows on iTunes within a day of the original airing like AMC does for Breaking Bad....I don't have HBO and don't want to get it just for the run. But would drop the money to buy the season package of True Blood.

The accents don't bother me. I know people in North LA that have similar accents.

At least they don't have everyone speaking cajun and saying chere every third word.

Paquin is probably the weakest link but that is because here dialog is usually terrible.

Harris writes romance at the Lucas level.

So have I, but *spoilers* I know he was faking it, but the other characters didn't find it odd.....well it is pretty bad when livelong Lousisanians have trouble discerning what the frick Rene is trying to say.

I take it you've read the books? Is the series more or less an accurate portrayal? Because my impression after watching the first season was that Twilight was True Blood rewritten and dumbed down for preteen girls.

I think I read the first 4 and stopped.

I'm not kidding about Lucas levels of painful dialog.

There have been many changes from the book to TV. Tara was barely in the books up to where I stopped reading them.

There have been some character changes as well as some characters left out.

BOOK SPOILERS SPOILERS SPOILERS

I am sure they will probably leave Elvis out although I wish they wouldn't.

Yep, in the books when Elvis died, a vampire rushed to him and filled him up with blood to revive him. But the Vamp was too late. He did turn Elvis into a vamp but he had permanent brain damage so he is very slow Elvis.

Season 1 was close. Season 2 went completely apeshit crazy far away from the books. Season 3 is starting out closer to the books.
