i don't get why people try to defend USC by saying they didn't know, or it wasn't a USC employee giving Bush $$.
the standard is, and has been for years, what a reasonably well run ath dept and it's staff SHOULD know about. Ignorance or false ignorance is not an excuse.

Isn't part of the issue that the university has no control over their program and is unaware of what going on right under their noses? He should probably just STFU. Noticed he blew out of town before everything was released.

Coaching staffs know when the former player and agent-types are hanging around. USC's practices were attended by these guys all the time. Miami had the same kind of things happening in the early 90's.

"I'm extremely dissapointed that we have to deal with this right now."
Not much to deal with when you run away from the mess you created.

I never did like that dude. Ever since he whined and bitched for not getting into the '03 title game.

Thats becuase you could have boosters giving money on the sly while the University denies knowledge- no one would ever get caught becuase proving knowledge without subpoena power is nearly impossible

Pete's house in Seattle is going to burn to the ground

Exactly. And that is the very definition of "lack of institutional control".

I can't believe what a liar No Pete is. We saw it with the Sanchez deal but this is just blatant. What a bag of shite. Of course Kiffy is acting like no biggie.

This explains the USC douche culture. It started with him at the top.

What he's thinking..."Why do you guys think I hauled arse outta that shithole. HeHe, they don't know the half of it!"
Posted on 6/10/10 at 6:37 pm to Grabo
Who is this "we" he keeps referring to? He ditched them as soon as he realized how bad they would be punished.

From page 30 of the infractions:
....and from his video:
How "vigilant" was Carroll when he encouraged the external elements to hire his players?
quote:
There was information in the record that the former head football coach encouraged sports marketer A to hire student-athletes as interns.
A current NFLPA certified agent ("sports agent B") is the chairman of a sports agency and a colleague of sports marketer A.
He reported that the former head football coach asked sports marketer A to consider hiring football student-athletes as interns in his agency.
....and from his video:

This is a clear cut case of external elements outside of the university setting entering in and disrupting the process of the young student-athletes going to college, for their gain.

Yet USC fans till today just couldn't figure out how Michael Ornstein hiring USC players should have been a tip off to the staff to take a closer look.

From a Yahoo article. Just FYI
quote:
“There is a systemic problem facing college athletes today: unscrupulous sports agents and sports marketers,” Todd Dickey, USC’s senior vice president for administration, said in a statement. “The question is how do we identify them and keep them away from our student-athletes?”
Considering that one of the market agents central to the case, Michael Ornstein, employed Reggie Bush as a summer intern prior to his junior season, it doesn’t seem like USC was too concerned about keeping anything away from their student athletes.
Did USC know about Ornstein? “We went through SC, went through the compliance office,” Ornstein told Yahoo! Sports in 2006. “We are allowed to pay the guy for 20 hours a week, $8 an hour. All of the paperwork is filed. It was just something we wanted to do to help Pete Carroll because they always are looking for summer jobs.”
USC may need a new defense.
