When it rains it pours.

Life is really tough right now. I'm actually feeling really down over all this heartache - locally (environment/economy) and nationally (economy) and globally (economy/conflicts).

Maybe the World Cup can help some.

Just keep listening to Rush Limbaugh I guess. A little oil never hurt anybody, and this is all being blown WAYYYYY out of proportion sez El Rushbo.

Has nothing to do w/ Limbaugh. There's no denying how bad this is, but to compound the damage by displacing innumerable numbers of people, families, businesses as well as threatening the long-term economic health of the nation is foolhardy.

You are welcome to disagree.

yeah and when the moratorium is lifted the jobs will automatically be back, like companies that move the platforms overseas are just going to bring them right back to the GOM.

Do you know what prompted that press release and numbers? BP!

I was there when BP was instructing everyone to talk much less about the oil spill and about the moratorium.

So does this make the layoffs untrue?

I have no idea about the layoffs because of closing deepwater drilling for a few months.

Everyday BP says they dont know if this or that will work because it hasnt been done at this depth. Well it fails.

I'm guessing if they dont know how to stop an oil leak at such depths they dont need to drill until safety measures are put in place. Is this a 1 in 100 chance or 1 in 1,000,000 chance. Nobody knows.

It's obvious they can't stop the leak until the relief well is drilled and these different attempts to stop the leak until that happens is just a dog and pony show to look like they are trying. The bottom is officially falling out again. I've heard stories about the 80's and I think we are about to experience it all over again.

once the platforms are moved out of the GOM, they won't come back for some time.

Mud i know you have a true passion about this, and i know your heart is in the riht place. I wish more people cared as much as you do. THat said, do you really think the liklihood of another accident in the next six months justifys what this moratorium will do to the coastal economy on an almost immediate and much worse future basis??? Do you not think that new safety standards and re6ulations cant be drafted in the next six months without destroyin the lives and livelyhoods of so many people???

The problem is if the companies decide to move the drilling platform to say South America then it might be years before it can be scheduled to be back. It's not like they are going to allow a bunch of billion dollar platforms to just sit around.
