Set to debut in October alongside AMC's annual "Fearfest" event, the series follows a police office who leads his family and a group of survivors across the country in search of a safe home as zombie hordes dismantle society.

Frank Darabont ("The Shawshank Redemption," "The Green Mile") is writing and directing the series, with Gale Anne Hurd of Valhalla Motion Pictures and David Alpert of Circle of Confusion executive producing along with Darabont and Kirkman.

AMC has ordered six episodes for Season 1.

To date, the show's cast includes Andrew Lincoln ("Love, Actually," "Teachers"), Jon Bernthal ("The Pacific," "The Ghost Writer"), Jeffrey DeMunn ("The Green Mile"), Laurie Holden ("Shield"), Steven Yeun and Sarah Wayne Callies ("Prison Break").

If it's anywhere near as good as the comic it will be fricking fantastic.

I am intrigued. But I kind of wish it was on HBO that way they don't have to skimp on the gore but this sounds like it could be a winner nonetheless

AMC
Great Source Material
Frank Darabont

I have high hopes for it. I hadn't read a comic book since I was little kid, until a friend gave me the first Walking Dead book. I was hooked right from the beginning, hopefully the series can live up to the book.

I guess I'm in the minority, but I found the comic sorta boring and predictable.

And I think Frank Darabont is overrated. Put us together and you have a full Walking Dead hater

To be fair, I read some of it about five years ago. I am looking forward to the TV adaptation, though!
