Set to debut in October alongside AMC's annual "Fearfest" event, the series follows a police office who leads his family and a group of survivors across the country in search of a safe home as zombie hordes dismantle society.

Frank Darabont ("The Shawshank Redemption," "The Green Mile") is writing and directing the series, with Gale Anne Hurd of Valhalla Motion Pictures and David Alpert of Circle of Confusion executive producing along with Darabont and Kirkman.

AMC has ordered six episodes for Season 1.

To date, the show's cast includes Andrew Lincoln ("Love, Actually," "Teachers"), Jon Bernthal ("The Pacific," "The Ghost Writer"), Jeffrey DeMunn ("The Green Mile"), Laurie Holden ("Shield"), Steven Yeun and Sarah Wayne Callies ("Prison Break").
