They usually show some of it live on CNN. But Greece and terrorists have taken most of the air time lately.

nothing new of significance. said the containment device was being delivered to the site as they were speaking and they "hoped" to lower it in place by morning. mr. suttles continued to emphasize that none of the things they were doing had ever been tried before and they were unsure that it will work. said they hoped to have everything connected and in operation in a few days. that was pretty much it....hopefully we will all wake up to good news tomorrow.

here's what was said....not much we did not already know, but for folks who couldn't listen in.

Mary Landry: burning, skimming, etc. has been productive due to good weather...ramped up response for chandalier islands where oil is showing up....boom production has been increased to get more out there. cleaning stations have been established in the shipping channel for the MS river to keep products moving.

MMS spokesman: working with BP on approving plan for containment. inspecting 30 deep water rigs...no cause for concern...checked BOP's. still working on investigation on DWH incident to find the cause.

BP: dome is currently 200 ft off of seabed on the side of leak while they prep the site....should be complete by end of today. by next week they hope to have everything connected to extract oil to the surface. cleanup teams checking into the 2 places oil is reported on shore. burned 7-9k barrels of oil yesterday. skimming recovered 8k barrels oil/water yesterday (about 50k so far)..90% is water though.

two additional options BP is looking at doing --- "junk shot" of plugging the well head with some type of rubber (you oil folks may know about this)....also trying to figure out if there is a way to put a BOP on top of the existing BOP (said this would be extremely difficult)

talked about the process of lowering the dome over the leak, about the process of pumping oil to the surface, separating the oil/water/gas once it is pumped to surface.

that's about it. as long as they keep letting me call in i will keep giving updates....

not good news....

Coast Guard: booms, skimming, dispersants were successful yesterday due to weather. teams are in the gulf searching for oil. 900k feet of boom is out there and 1.3 million ft of boom is ready. new post in St. Pete up and running. Grand isle has algae washing up, not oil. crews working at chandeleur islands to remove oil. they don't know what issues with wildlife will arise from using the dispersants. many fed agencies are evaluating this now.

MMS: relief well drilling is going well. still inspecting 47 deep water production facilities. will probably take another month to complete.

BP: thanks to volunteers and personnel on scene. stressed again it has never been done at this depth. hydrate formation? caused dome to be moved to the side of leak. looking for other options to stop flow. (see yesterdays post)...relief well is at 9000 ft and making progress. 2.3 million additional feet of boom coming from companies all over the world. 1 million ft. being manufactured now. attempting to put boom in every place they can. shoreline teams on chandeleur islands cleaning. 17500 barrels skimmed yesterday. several successful burns yesterday (think he said 7??).

**dome is 200 meters from leak and sitting on the sea floor. gas hydrates (like slushy ice crystals) formed on the inside of the dome, plugging up the top of the dome. they anticipated this and planned to put a pipe inside a pipe and inject warm water to prevent it. they picked up dome and set it on the side to go over the options they have now they are looking at ways to provide heat or methanol to overcome problem of freezing/crystallization.

other option: "junk shot"-- take ground up material and try to inject it into the well...when it rises it begins to plug leak. said its like stopping up a toilet. they are worried that if they try this, more oil could be released. they are studying the possible outcomes of doing this. continue to look at this as an option as well as others...

opinions from oil people????
