Do you tip when picking up take-out?

Instead of having pizza delivered to the house, I'll often order it and pick it up on the way home from work. I'll also pick up dinner from the usual "curbside-to-go" places on occasion.

I never tip the pizza guys when I pick it up myself, and I'll tip 10% to the server who brings the food out to my car. I guess if I would have gone into the restaurant to pick up my food, then I wouldn't tip them anything.

What's the protocol for this? What do you do?

I tip the server for preparing the take out

they have to get the order when prepped in the kitchen, bag it, put all necessary sauces in thr bag, and plasticware

then run it up to the bar or wherever

so I throw a buck at her

I'd say about 75% of people tip at least something on to-go orders. A few people leave 20%, the vast majority leave 10%, and a few (more than the 20%ers) leave $1. I usually leave 10%. Now this is just my experience in places where you go in and pick up your order from a hostess or bartender. I don't tip if I'm picking up a pizza. IMO that'd be like tipping at subway or something.

For take out from restaurants, I tip about 10%, but I think a dollar or two for any sized bill is good as the to-go workers don't really expect much. As for pizza, I don't tip carry out.

Tip $1 or $2 as long as the service is decent on to-go.

If I'm a regular in a restaurant, I'll tip to go. I'm not opposed to it. But, sometimes they just take it from the window to the kitchen and hand it to you. Not sure how that warrants a tip.

I tip a dollar when I get takeout from a restaurant. If I order more than just food for myself, maybe a little more but for myself, a dollar.

i go out of my way and tip in the form of cash everytime i eat. no point in making these people having to claim it and pay tax on it.

a $10 tip, they get the whole $10, rather than after tax of ~$7.50

Do you come up with this figure from working in the industry? I have often wondered this question....I always tip unless the to go service is bad...I have tried to notice others and their tipping habbits but I never got a handle on it....75% would be interesting.

Do you crumple it up first or just let it flutter around so you can watch her scramble after it?
