I remember a couple of seasons ago, only about 4 guys on the team couldn't....It was against Tulane they said something on the TV about it..

Tulane had about 4 guys that could bench 400, and virtually every player at LSU could...representing a total physical mis-match

anyone remember that?

Just curious where we are today in terms of maturity and strength?

There is absolutely no way this is true.

None of the recievers could... None of the qb's..... Charles Scott couldn't bench 400 so none of the rbs.... And none of the kickers, punters could

there I just named for different positions much less four players who can't life 400... End thread

I am probably off on the numbers slightly Maybe it was ten guys who couldn't...or maybe only 4 starters that couldn't? Dunno....

I am telling you that a majority of the team could bench 400 or more...it was on TV, they showed a little chart or stat...I am not making this up

"Damn strong football team"

You are right, but I think it was 300lbs. Or it was just the linemen. No way TT or JJ can do it. Most of the dbs cant. I know Michael Ford can.

99.999% of college football players can (and SHOULD) bench 300lbs with the only exceptions going to kickers and people with one arm.

Benching 400lbs and above is not easy and that is for even the best of the best out there like LSU, USC, Ohio St etc...

No way everyone but four guys bench 400+ at ANY school (it is much more impressive for a guy to REP 400-425 multiple times than it is to have a One Rep Max at 450lbs or more)

I would guess that LSU and major programs have between 25-40 guys that lift 400lbs (repetitions/Sets)- plus or minus a few here and there..

I am sure there are plenty of guys that can one rep Max out at 400++++++ but that dont mean squat if you dont have the stamina/strength to do reps and work out with it on the bar!

They said only 2 players on Tulane's roster can bench 400 pounds and for a comparison LSU has 75 players that can bench 400.

WHo is they? The TV guys from 2 years ago -

Who cares what Tulane can/cant do. Question is does anyone on here really have the numbers for LSU (proof) other than TV announcers who kiss arse all day anyway!?

Bench press weights are about as reliable as 40 yd times. There is a lot of puffery going on. I don't doubt that someone said lots of guys could do it, I just doubt that they actually could.

Don't think this is true--what about qb's? ESPN had a story either this year or last mentioning that McCoy had recently benched 300 for the first time.

Many high school players who have been lifting seriously can bench 275-300 (tall, skinny guys with long arms are excluded here ). I do remember the claims on the 2007 team, but maybe it was like 70% at 400 or over, but many of those guys had been in the program 3-5 years, too, as that was a large senior class.

This reminds me of Noel Devine...435lb bench going into his junior season.

500lb squat isn't bad either...

or a 300lb power clean...

or a 4.04 pro shuttle...

I'm excited for his combine.
