I know it is a improvement from last year but Lsu gets killed on time of possession. Lsu can only make stops when the other team is in the red zone. I just don't see this as a good defensive strategy for competing for sec championships.

Not a ton of confidence from me at this point. However...not bad for his first year. Watching PP and CJ have been fun. I don't know if he's worth the money he's getting, but it's hard to complain about progress...even if it's only modest progress.

Considering the difference he made from last year, im pretty confident he can put it together.

Its going to take longer than one season to fix that disaster of a defense from '08.

Ok so LSU stops them from scoring. That's bad? LSU gave up an average of like 15 points agame this year. Considering how little the offense controlled the clock, that might not be so bad.

I like Chavis

We need a better DL, and then we can dialed it up

I'll agree on that but for me its just alarming to see the other teams offense stay on the field and Lsu just gets 1 or 2 offensive series the whole quarter.

I think just about anyone with any previous defensive coaching experience at the D1 level could have made the improvements Chavis made this year. The "improvements" were nothing significant IMO. The bottom line is that we couldnt get off the field on third down.

In years past, when we had a team 3rd and 6 or longer, I felt confident going to the bathroom knowing that when Igot back we'd likely be fielding a punt.

Now? No way I get up, because I didnt even have confidence when it was 3rd and 12. Most times, I wished I had gotten up.

Its nice to stop them but giving the offense less plays and leaving the defense out there longer means less points for lsu. Best example of this was the florida game this year. Lsu barely had the ball the whole game.

No, not at all.

The problem with the D is that they don't get off the field enough, give up too many third down conversions, give up too much field position, and wear down towards the end of the game because they've been out there the whole time.

Just mix in some pressure once in a while, and for the love of God, disguise a blitz every now and then. I'll admit, I'm not an expert, I don't know, but it just seems like that's what I've been seeing.

Very Confident.

He improved greatly over last year. Plus his counterpart (offense) sucked arse. 3 and out all day long. It's hard to stay fresh.

I can't argue with this. I can't count how many times a 3rd and long came up and i said, "Please, for the love of God, just make a stop here."

How about all the times where "prevent to win" let the offense run up and down the field and score at will in the final minutes of a game or half? He has the defense so tired by the fourth quarter unless LSU has a 20 point lead, the game is always in question. Yes I know the offense does not help much either but Chavis is not that good of a DC. Sure better than last years, but if we were not exposed to that crap, we would be saying the same thing this year as we were about those other two jokers.

His D is what it is IMO. It isn't the style I prefer, but we should always be solid under him.

I'm starting to wonder if the DL is just a matter of what Les himself likes to do with his DL rather than a lack of talent.

So from what your saying we get killed in T.O.P because of the defense? And it has nothing to do with the offense going 3 and out or starting with a short field and only come away with field goals. Yeah let's totally blame the D after our opponents points per game average was like 15! Go back under your rock.

time of possession would be a lot better if our offense actually did something. too many three and outs by our O is the reason the defense is on the field so much.

requires far more energy to play defense in general...imo, our biggest problems were on offense this year...too many three and outs (poor play calling, ineffective OL, immature QB)

if we cut down on three and outs, the defense is better rested and more able to make big plays...

He can go with Miles if honest-to-God improvements aren't clearly visible next season. This year all you had to do to convert third down on LSU was get us in 3rd and long. We couldn't stop anybody, including Penn State in ankle-deep mud.
