but if a defense really needs to get off the field quickly, the coord must make calls to expeidite the process...

but that expedited process may be due to a TD for the opposing offense. Chavis doesn't like to put unnecessary risk in his scheme. That probably prolongs drives but keeps big plays to a minimum. Not saying it is right or wrong, but he does have valid reasons for his philosophy.

I would agree that it is a philosophy but, as far as the risk, you run risk playing conservative as well, saban's defense's run risk all the time by blitzing often, thats why he preaches form tackling and execution...he drills and drills and drills to where his players know what to do at all times...hence, good, attacking style defenses...fwiw my opinion is to have that exact attacking defense all the time...pressure pressure pressure...I'll give up a big play every once in a while (cause it happens anyway even with prevent defenses) to keep my defense fresh and off the field and make the other team beat me, other than hold off and wait to see if luck or the O can bail me out...

he will be fine, time of possesion killed us this year with lack of offense, just made our defense have to be on the field that much longer and like someone said earlier, we did not get blown out of one game this year, it wasn't our defense that kept us from winning games it was our lack of offense. we held the number one and two team in the nation to 30 some odd points and only lost by 10 to florida. first year, i think he did a damn fine job and will only get better years to come, thats if the whole defense doesn't have massive heart attacks because they have to be on the field for so long

ever hear a woman say "I'm fine" is she really ok?

With so many up and coming "hot assistants" waiting to get their shots why must we settle on someone that is "fine" I mean, he is a good coach no doubt, just think there is someone else out there better....waiting to make a name for themselves...those guys are sharp, want to work and will stop at nothing to earn respect amongst their peers...Thats the guy I want...

I know it is a improvement from last year but Lsu gets killed on time of possession. Lsu can only make stops when the other team is in the red zone. I just don't see this as a good defensive strategy for competing for sec championships.

Confident that he is an average DC...better than what we had in 08 though.

The kids needed a season to get used to playing for Chavis. Judge him a couple of years down the road. However, based on his past history of success, he is hardly the frick-up that some try to make him out to be.

I think the census here is compared to last year he is a big improvement. He deserves more than one year to prove his worth. Let some of these young guys on the DL and LB who have been learning under him this year and will be next year too. let them get in there and prove themselves and see what happens. If he is worth being here they will play like it.

It also did not hurt that he did all of this so far without help from the other side of the ball. The same kind of stuff he dealt with at Tenn. So hopefully the offense is night and day next year like the defense was. Time will tell but if it is... I think he will fair pretty well here. TOP in a game is one thing but when your scoring points and stopping the other team your still going to win. You also have to be productive on offense to account for any TOP in the first place.
