I've seen a few book/comic reviews on this board, so I figured this would be the best place for it.

To those of you familiar with the Wheel of Time series, this is the latest book (#12). Robert Jordan passed away in 2007, and it was determined that Brandon Sanderson would take over and finish the series using what notes Jordan had left.

Not to be callous, but this could be the best thing that has happened to the series since the 90's. Sanderson gets the plot moving in a way that it hasn't been in 4 or 5 books. Early on while reading I found myself saying stuff like "Oh, an Egwene chapter. This is going to go nowhere." based on the way the story had progressed for almost 6 books. I was very very wrong.

This book had some great story arcs that were nicely contained within the covers, something that hasn't been the norm. Instead of Jordan's tendency to start 5 new plots with the closing of every 1, Sanderson does the opposite and wraps up some story lines that have been dragging on for a decade or more.

This book has reignited my interest in the series. It is very well done, and rivals Jordan's best works in the series. It still feels like part of the same story however, which is good. The huge, detailed world that Jordan created is still there, only now you don't have to read about every stitch of clothing on every person in every scene.

Miner Spoilers:

This book focuses on Rand and Egwene, and their stories are incredibly well done. Egwene becomes the strong character that I think Jordan was trying to make her become but never quite got there, and Rand has some of his best scenes in the entire series.

Anyway, just wanted to share. If anyone else has read it would enjoy hearing their take on it.

It was definitely better than Path of Daggers, Crossroads of Twilight, and Winter's Heart (which could have all been condensed into one book. Maybe half a book) I thought it was still one of the weakest in the series. But then again I've only read it once. Perhaps it deserves a re-read.

Lord yes. Ever since leaving the Two Rivers a second time his story has been nothing but fail and boring.

Might have just been that a retard could write a better book than Crossroads of Twilight

Also at Sanderson breaking the final book up into 3 books are Jordan said he would finish it in one.

I quit reading this after about the 8th book. Right now I'm reading Batman graphic novels...yeah, I'm a nerd.

Well Jordan said he would finish it in one even if it took him 2000 pages.

So even he knew it would be a monstrously large final book. He also is on record as stating all the loose ends would not necessarily be wrapped up while Sanderson wants to try and wrap everything up.

The problem with these books is that even in the last book, new people and plots are hatched.

With all the characters and plots, I have a tough time remembering what the heck was going on when the story left off.

I used to reread all of the books when a new one came out, but now we are over 8k pages from start to finish so that is out.

I'm going to have to find a plot summary site before starting this one.

I can't remember a single thing about the last book so I might re-read that one before starting the new one.

just finished reading this book yesterday. was definitely an improvement over books 8-10. the pacing was on par with some of the better books (particularly 4-6). and, the plot is finally moving forward. plot barely moved at all in books 8-10.

11 and 12 finally tied up some long running plot lines that were long overdue to finish up.

for the first time in a while, i'm actually looking forward to the next book. overall, i have really enjoyed this series but i am ready for it to end....

there are wikipedia pages devoted to each book; i usually read the wiki summaries of each book when a new one comes out. some of the summaries are better than others but they are good enough to refresh the memory.

This was probably the best one since book 6.

Jordan was a good world creator, but not the best writer on earth. Sanderson is a massive improvement, prose wise, IMO.

overall, i enjoy Jordan's writing. but, his need to describe everything in such excruciating detail was the real problem for me. series could have been done in 6 books easy if he didn't feel the need to spend 20 pages describing the sunset or telling us how Rand felt about his breakfast. Sanderson seems to get to the point faster and there appears to be more dialog, which reads much faster.

The amount of clothing descriptions and discussions of people body language/facial is quite amazing..... in a bad way.

Seriously, how many times do we need to read that Nyneave is tugging on her braid because she's angry.

But I definitely agree, i'm excited about the series again after I had pretty much given up on it.

He is still taking like three books to finish the series right?

On a side note, seems as if the series went to complete shite after Lanfear and Moiraine were killed.

Yes, but after reading this book I'm actually kind of glad. There's a lot more dialog than normal, so it's a much faster read. It also gives him the chance to neatly wrap up most of the storylines, rather than just rushing through it.

Well as soon as she died Rand turned into a huge fricking emo.

Perrin being full of lose and fail has already been discussed.

Matt has been the only likable one of the main 3 over the last few books.

Elaine's plot was also a huge anchor during those terrible books. People just stood around and kept discussing this army that was coming, for 3 fricking books.

Although all the Aes Sedai annoy me Egwenne has had some good chapters.

If you are reading this genre and not reading George RR Martin's A Song of Ice and Fire series, you are reading the wrong books.

I want to punch the Aes Sadi in their face, Egwene especially or and that Casu-something.

Agreed, but the butthole needs to fix his continuity problems so we can get the next book.

Read The Gathering Storm and you will probably change your mind. I know I did, at least about Egwene. I absolutely hated her before this book. That Sanderson can make me do a 180 on her speaks well of him.
