I saw that you predicted that Maclin would be the top player from this class 4 years from now.

I was wondering if you have watched these films of him. I would like to hear your analysis of Maclin based on these 3 videos that were taken this year.

Maclin video Part 1

Maclin video Part 2

Maclin video Part 3

These videos show all but three defensive plays in this game, so there is no editing for a video highlight reel.

I'm watching the first link you sent as I type this. This is one of the most boring videos I have ever watched Germantown's offense is so vanilla. They ran away from Maclin for most of what I have watched so far.

I think Maclin will have to have a bit more of a mean streak to develop for him to be a top notch college player. Physically, however, he is pretty far along. He will only need to add a little weight and should be able to give us the athleticism on the end that we all desire.

Here is the list and my thoughts:
Jordan Allen--Could be a big time player. But does he move to OT or stay at DE?

Houston Bates--Expect him to be a 4 year special teamer

Dexter Blackmon--No one knows much about this kid. I'll be very interested to see him develop.

Alfred Blue--I'm not all that high on Blue. I think he is Richard Murphy part 2. If he ends up being great then I will eat crow.

Travis Dickson--TE or DE? I think he may be even more athletic than Richard. But, even with as good as Richard has been...I don't think Travis will have the chances to be a "headliner" for the class.

Cameron Fordham--not high on him; ill leave it at that.

Sam Gibson--big sleeper pick; could develop into a top notch Safety.

Jakhari Gore--I really like him. I don't think he will be a "headliner" though

Justin Hunter--most athletic guy in the class and one of the best in the country. He could definitely be a headliner.

Nick Jacobs--TE...not going to be flashy, but a solid player.

Zach Lee--will he play football? He will have to wait his turn behind Chris G.

Justin Maclin--physically gifted and athletic. Could be a great player.

Cassius Marsh--He'll contribute, but I don't expect him to be an All-SEC type.

Tyrann Mathieu--good player, but size will limit him from being an All-American. Could be a GREAT nickleback early in his career.

Luke Muncie--One of the guys I am most interested in seeing. He could be a sleeping giant.

Elliott Porter--I expect him to be a solid college player. Nothign more, nothing less.

Eric Reid--Great potential as a OLB in the Chavis system; I am not completely sold on him as a safety at the next level.

Tharold Simon--what position does he play? CB? S? WR? I think he could be a great prospect at WR.

Ronnie Vinson--Guy can play anywhere. Again, where does he play? Could be RB, CB, or S.

Spencer Ware--Stays at RB I am assuming. Big talent; will be interesting to see develop into RB role from QB in highschool.

Evan Washington--Good looking guard prospect.

D.J. Welter--I don't expect anymore than Jacob Cutrera type play.

Brad Wing--if he is as good as it sounds, he could be a huge piece to this class.

Brandon Worle--will do a great job as a FB.

---------
I think Hunter is a lock to be a bigtime player.

Thats where my locks would end.

Overall, I think the 2010 class has a TON of complimentary players and a solid core group to make a tremendous team. However, it does not have the "can't miss" type talent we typically have in classes.

Why do you say that? Alot of people think he will be a good OG prospect. Sonny just said today that he was being worked out at the All-American practice at LT.

Sorry, I typed that long post kind of quickly and didn't proof it like I typically do.

I think Porter will be solid, but I don't have unrealistic expectations for him.

If you watch the 2nd and 3rd installments, Germantown starts running Maclin's way a lot. I know that the tapes are boring, but I believe if you watch all of them you can get a feel for whether a guy is a "football player" or not.

I went to two of Maclin's games this year, and I did not seem him attack anyone on any play. All of the tackles I saw him make were running a guy down from behind. It was disturbing to me to watch Germantown's small non-D1 running backs easily blocking Maclin one-on-one in the 2nd and 3rd tapes.

Good analysis and I agree Maclin, Hunter and Ware will probably end up being the best players in this class.

I do agree with what you are saying to a degree.

He doesn't show the aggression he needs to have. He is very passive...and will be a complete bust unless he works on that aspect of his game.

If he gains a mean streak, he has the physical ability,

I agree that he has the physique of a great player. However, I am not sure that aggression and competitive spirit can be taught.

Another thing that struck me when watching his games was that he did not play a single offensive snap in either game. The team he played on needed athletes on the offensive side, but he was not used at all. If he had been really exerting himself on defense, this would not be such a big concern.

In the 1st game I saw him play, he played MLB. He did not hit anyone with any force during the game, and in my opinion he ran away from contact on several occasions.

I was really excited when he committed because of his reputation and because I was going to get to see him play a couple of games. I was shocked at his performance.

Nice LC. Agree totally that Maclin has the physical tools. Hopefully he will become a bit more fierce once he's a Tiger. FWIW KS had similar types of video from HS and he's turned out to be a stout one. I do have a feeling that Gore could turn out to be more than a bit player and Ware has the look of a solid back. Hunter looks better at this stage than Bowe, Davis, TT or Lafell IMO. He will see serious PT next year barring something unforeseen.

Dont think this class needs to be filled with as Dandy Don will say all SEC perfomers (which i believe ruins a fanbase's opinion of what a 85 scholarship roster is meant to be) ..this class is very critical, these will be guys that have to compete everyday and blend in with a good 09 and possible great 11 class. Maybe these "Low Star guys" appreciate the chance to play in a SEC conference, and get a free ride and contribute in their role.

The other benefit, with college football being a nasty business, is these could be good candidates for attrition within the next couple years. This could be a class in 5 years that only has 6 to 8 players left..Which unfortunatly is good for LSU's numbers game (85 scholly).

With that said, i think Hunter, Vinson, and Reid are potential pro players, with possiblity of Gore turning out to be a solid contributer...My biggest sleeper is Evan Washington, on the oline. Guys like him who start playing football late in their high school years turn out to be very coachable and good stories during games. Sam Gibson, in the D-back field can benefit from being QB ..Allen, has potential but only if he bulks up to 290-300 and plays DT where he belongs.
