Dating to Sept. 2, Alleva e-mailed football coach Les Miles’ assistant with the message, “I need to see les asap. New situation.”

Les doesn't have a cell phone?

Just read it...It sounds like we need to brace ourselves for some serious shite but we've got an ace attorney handling the details. Something is telling me this guy is having a good Christmas thanks to a nice retainer from LSU.

Bahnsen then informed Martin by e-mail, “We have been thrown a Curve Ball. We are NOT getting the phone records at all. Went to an attorney … Unbelievable!”

He probably sent an email as a "CYA" measure.

I'm guessing it's McCarthy and his attorney protecting his cell records ...

what bothers me is he says "new situation" does that not infer there was another or previous situation?

No reason thus far to believe there is anything above the minor infraction level. It is common practice for sports practice attorneys to be retained once a school begins an investigation. The best news to come out so far is that it seems limited to one guy's recruitment and he did not participate. Word around the campus is that LM actually stumbled across the possibility of an infraction and reported it to Alleva right away. From all appearances the School is handling everything in the appropriate fashion.

I want to believe them when they say it's minor, and maybe this kind of info is normal for any investigation. But nothing in that article sounded minor to me

As an attorney who has dealt with situations similar in the business world, I am VERY confident in the outcome of this. I always advise clients to be very cautious using email because it is discoverable and even privileged ones may be leaked. I tell them to think about how it will look reprinted on page A.1 of the Wall Street Journal.

Here, it is The Advocate. And judging by these emails, it is clear they took things seriously and professionally. You can be sure that if there were more salicious or juicy emails, the media would have reported it (it's their job). The fact that THIS is what was printed is a credit to Alleva and Martin. The takeaway is that they took things seriously and investigated immediately. They hired a well-respected and experienced advisor. And probably would have this wrapped up but for attorneys for one of the persons of interest stepping in to protect their client.

Again, I am proud of the administration on this. Believe me, things aren't always handled so appropriately.
