effect on JJ if coaching change is made at OC

many people have said that JJ looks unsure of himself and confused this season and he has shown poor situational understanding. I attribute this to coaching because I think JJ has talent. I think an OC change needs to be made, however if a change is made at OC does this stunt JJs ability to grow as a QB by bringing in a new system for him to learn, therefore making next year a wash anyway? I may have talked myself into letting it ride with GC...

It will set him back but its better to start learning correctly late then continuing to learn crap.

I think you have to look beyond just JJ when addressing the OC issue. It might hinder his progression through Crowton's playbook, or it could help him if the OC is a good QB coach.
Think about the other players on the team also. The other QBs need help, and the entirety of the offense has had problems in 2008 and 2009, whether it be turnovers or lack of scoring this year.

Not 100% sure, but I'm pretty sure we won the NC after Flynn learned one offense 4 years, then another his 5th and championship year.
OCs can help players make the transition while doing similar things on offense.

1. I have been thinking about this before this post.
I see JJ and think he looks confused, too.
Maybe its situational, and maybe he realizes that the OC is leading the team in the wrong direction. I just came to that, but I suspect its just that JJ is confused sometimes.
2. I think JJ will do better in a huddle, with the permission to make calls and to change calls himself at the line of scrimmage.

the reason i focus on JJ is because i think he will be the QB next year even if a OC coaching change is made. Can we really axe GC with out seeing how JJ develops in his Jr year (when he most likely would have started without the whole RP deal) it takes time to develop leadership and the football IQ of say a Matt Flynn. I think GC gets one more year to show the fruits of his labor

I think it could be good for him, actually. Crowton has probably taught him all he can about the QB position--another coach, even if he's not "as good" as Crowton, would at least have different things to teach him, different ways of teaching it. I'm sure he'd be a better QB just by having another coach(assuming the new coach is competent).
As far as the offensive system goes, Miles knows next year could be his last, so he's gonna make it very clear to whoever he hires that both their jobs depend on a very smooth transition that allows for immediate results. Miles can't afford to hire somebody who's offense won't really work until '11 or '12. This is also a reason that he might actually wind up keeping Crowton. Though I hope he doesn't. However, if he does, I'm not throwing in the towel for next year. He's proven he can be very effective at the highest levels. He's just gonna have to make some adjustments, and the light is really gonna have to turn on for Jefferson(or Garrett).

How did bringing in the aforementioned Crowton stunt Flynn?
How did Jimbo stunt Davey or Booty?
Good OC will use JJ's strengths and coach him to improve his weaknesses.

Depends on the coordinator. Don;t count out Chris Garrett if LSU gets an OC who prefers a true pro style offense.

Don't count out any QB if we hire an OC with direction, coaching skills and ability to maximize his talents strengths.

I really think I'm just trying to make myself feel better about another year under GC . I just dont feel a change will be made at OC this year (fingers still crossed though)

WHO would come to lsu as oc if they saw how lsu treats miles?
WHO would come to work for miles if this is miles' last year?
WHO would come to lsu to work for one year?
WHO are the stupidest ranturds on this board but the ones who want everyone fired b/c that would prove they are right about everything negative?
DO you ranturds ever Preview your stupidity?

Hopefully his change will be like Dixon's after "The Wiz" left.'

Very interesting H-Town Tiger...never thought about that. If you think a change is the right move who do you think would be the strongest to fill the void?

I hope so too, but I think that had more to do with Chip Kelly coming in than Crowton leaving. So the biggest thing for Miles is replacing Crowton with a very good OC. Replacing him just to replace him could be a mistake.

Carl,
I just returned from a Christmas party that I talked to a friend who coached at the Div.-I level and is now a respected head coach in high school in LA. The topic of LSU football was brought up several times. He knows I follow LSU and I know the game fairly well, so he is hesitant to be very critical of either one.
He feels JJ could succeed at a higher level next season, but not necessarily under Crowton and Miles. He was actually more critical than I about Crowton's playcalling, and he flat out hates criticizing play calls. His opinion on the matter did not significantly differ from mine on the subject, although he seemed more optimistic that JJ will perform at a higher level next season, regardless of offensive direction.
He also added that his former Div. I school did not recruit JJ, and did not feel that he was a better option than those they offered. This is a LA school with no present players with LSU offers.

You give JJ too much credit- his confusion is that he is moving slowly through the learning curve- He is not ready to call his on plays--
I think we see why he did not play last year- He is the better player to have on the field than JL but does not have the play book mastered
Bring in a new OC and it may very well set him back

No,they are mostly guys who never played organized football. They don't understand the game is not as simple as it appears.
At this point in his career,JJ is not an elite QB. He cannot read defenses, progressions, etc. There is no substitute for experience.
Poor QB play by young, inexperienced QBs has crippled Tiger offense. This yrs OL has played poorly also They wil be better next year.
