Couldn't we take a delay of game penalty?

Couldn't we have taken a delay of game penalty instead of "spiking the ball"? Sure we would have moved back 5 yards (big deal), but that would have allowed us to get the field goal team on and set.

Auto runoff of 5 seconds inside 2 minutes on offensive penalty.

No. Play clock was basically non existent since the game clock would have ticked off.

think there is a 5 second run off.

You mean letting the 1 second run off the clock along with extra imaginary time?
Posted on 11/23/09 at 12:35 pm to 1Geaux1
nope
then there would be a ten second run off
then there would be a ten second run off

Oh. My. God.
Just so you know, the clock continues as the play goes. When the ball was thrown, the clock only stopped long enough to re set the chains. Once they were re set, the clocks starts again. Thus, you couldn't get a DOG. You also can't spiek because it takes more than 1 second. You had to run a play or kick.

THERE IS NO 10 SECOND RUN OFF IN COLLEGE FOOTBALL
However, there is a section in the rules about "unfair clock tactics" which gives the officials broad authority to start (or stop) the clock to make up for the use of "unfair clock tactics"
I would assume the poster didn't mean a standard delay of game penalty, but one of another kind. For instance, if the center had snapped the ball before the ball was signaled ready for play, that would be a delay of game penalty. However, IMO, the ref would immediately see this as an unfair clock tactic, and have the clock started.

Did you think I was agreeing with the threadstarter, dumbass?

Those of you saying there would be a 5 or 10 second run off are ALMOST as silly as the OP.
The clock starts when the ball is spotted. Not when it is snapped. So they CANT take a delay of game
