Is there a chart or some rule-of-thumb for determining the serving sizes of various volumes of cast iron pots for cooking jambalaya. Thanks.

ETA:This question is very hard to comprehend. Sorry.

I think a five gallon is supposed to feed 30-35. Of course it'll feed more if you have other food, and less if that is the only thing to eat. I would think for a tailgate type setting it would feed at least 40 people with all the other snacking going on. If you regulate the serving size a little that would help too...maybe a slightly smaller bowl to limit the waste. This is just my best guess. Someone can tell me I'm full of it though cuz I've never done it before.

I use the 10 "mixed" eater per gallon measure. That's 12.8 fluid oz of jambo per person. "Regulation" vendor portions at tiger stadium and surrounding areas per LSU Concessions/Tiger Concessions is 12oz. Also, note that your pot that people will call a 10 gallon, 20 gallon,30 gallon, is really a NUMBER 10, 20, 30. I don't know the exact breakdown, but my NUMBER 30 is actually about 28.5 gallons. In the grand scheme of things, doesn't really matter a lot, and some pots match up Number for LBS, just one of those things to watch for when getting your pot.

Happy Jambo Cooking!

I always use the rule of thumb of 10 persons per gallon. Now this takes into consideration there will be beans and salad and bread. If Jam only I think you can cut that down to 7 or 8 persons per gal.

Thats been my past experience. Worked out fine for me.

it's easier to cook a little jambo in a big pot, then try to squeeze a big jambo in a little pot.
you won't regret getting a bigger pot than you think you need. more room.
