Question About Turnovers

Many posters on this board give our defense a lot of credit for forcing four turnovers in our previous game against Mississippi State. By that logic, can we say that last season our opponents collectively played the most outstanding defense in NCAA history due to the fact that we gave up so many turnovers?
My big issue is that when anyone tries to say anything critical of the defense with respect to the Mississippi State game, people conveniently bring up the four turnovers and the goal line stand. That goal line stand would have meant more to me if MSU hadn't been able to drive the ball down the field at will to get all the way to our goal line. The game should have never come down to that situation.

Defense isn't the problem. Defense will be fine and is significantly improved from last season.
Offensive line and lack of a running game is our main issues right now, along with special teams mishaps.
That Miss St game was over in the third quarter if we don't give them 11 points on special teams(punt over head, missed XP, missed chip shot FG).

Our defense didn't play THAT bad against MSU. Yea, MSU sucks but LSU really only gave 17 points to them. The last TD was off a turnover on downs on their goaline. That shouldn't go against defense, not much they can do.
When your defense sits on the field for 80+ plays, gets 4 turnovers and offense can't do anything with it, you start to get winded. If LSU was able to sustain drives, it might of completely changed the complexion of the game for LSU's defense for about a million reasons. The big plays they gave up, Safeties were in position, just misjudged the ball.
They did run pretty good but a lot of those yards came in the 4th quarter, off a powerful RB that is suppose to get his big yards in the 4th. LSU's defense was really getting winded at that point and it was obvious.
LSU does have major problems on its d-line though. From depth, to lack of consistency in pass rush, to inconsistency closing gaps on run plays. I think our young secondary can be very good if they can get just a little support from the front four. I don't care if you have PP's in your entire secondary, if you play against a decent QB and he has all day to throw, hes going to make the secondary look terrible. On the deep pass that Hatcher missed the tackle on, it should of been a sack but instead, someone cut Taylor's leg from out under him. He definitely was going to sack MSU's QB because he was closing on him pretty damn fast. It starts in the trenches and LSU has been horrible on both sides this year.

Yet we still can't generate a pass rush, or finish a sack. Our blitzes are predictable. Our CB play has been great, Safeties have done a good job thus far, linebackers are playing well. But without a good DLine, I can't say that we will be significantly improved over last year.

That is the second time this season we've had the deep snapper sail the ball over the punter's head. We still gave up 150 yards rushing while only being able to gain 30 ourselves. MSU's quarterback didn't impress me at all.

Although the snap was high, Helton should have caught that snap IMO. The wet conditions certainly contributed to that, but it is still unacceptable.

The field was wet for both teams. MSU didn't have such problems.

Although our offensive line and running game troubles me greatly, that 30 is a little deceiving as they include the snap over the punter's head in rushing yards, as well as sacks and the safety loss.
Still, a pitiful day on the ground for LSU, but the 30 is overstating how bad it was.
