Pocket Passer vs. Dual Threat QB

Which is better for seeking a national title?

Personally, I think that a pass first, run second QB is better. As long as he CAN run when necessary!

Take these three for instance:

Matt Mauck, Matt Flyn, Jamarcus Russell

All could throw and ran when necessary (I am aware Russell could not run as well as Flynn and Mauck)

Other factors to consider are leadership and field intelligence... Flynn and Mauck both strived in these aspects

not another debate on current QBs

I think it would be nice to get a Matt Barkley type QB for a change

I am glad JJ is a pocket passer that can run.

Just to play along with this debate. I think you do need a dual threat QB in its true meaning. By that I mean you need a QB that can throw the football, but has the athletic ability to escape the rush and/or pull it down and hurt you with his legs. Dual threat has become a moniker for the running QB, but many of those QBs can't throw the football. Vandy's QB was a prime example of that. I really think Jefferson is a dual threat QB, as was Jake Locker. That's just my two cents on the subject.
