... does he actually improve his chances of making money down the road?

First, he's not making any money this year. He's also the property of the 49ers until draft day so he won't be able to work-out for any teams. He didn't run at the combine last season and fell to pick 10. Will he really make the money back he's losing out on this year by re-entering the draft next season?

It's possible, but it would have to be WAY down the road, like when he outplays his rookie contract. He would still have to go to a team willing to dish out the cash.

His rookie deal will be welfare compared to what he would have gotten this year.

He's making the worst possible decision.

If he's unhappy with the offer amount he's getting, he should try for a contract with a 4th year option or maybe something with an incentive to get out of the contract earlier. Sitting out will do nothing but cause him to lose money and miss out on a year of a salary.

Mike Williams part 2. He's not that big and not that fast, and he played in a great system in a conference with bad defenses. A year off won't help him.

And he won't make more money.

He is a fricking idiot. Go play, make your millions of guaranteed money. Im assuming this is all about money, and he is losing millions by not signing this year, so I dont understand the point of the holdout. Who gives a frick if oakland picked Hayward-Bey where crabby thought he shoulda been picked? Dont be mad at the 49ers for still taking you in the TOP 10 OF THE DRAFT.

Not signing this season would not help him in anyway.

All reports point to him sitting out the season. Maybe something will happen at crunch time in week 10, but right now, he's sitting out.

Shame, because the Niners schedule after the bye in week 5 is brutal.

IF he is drafted by the Saints then he will make tons of money, because everyone know Breesus makes decent WRs into pro bowl caliber. See Lance Moore.

Anyone know what the sticking point is? Are they THAT far apart on terms?

I completely understand wanting to get as much guaranteed money as possible, because like any other player your just one injury away from never getting another NFL paycheck.

I just don't see anyway that he'll wind up with more money by going back into the draft next year.

He should be glad we did.

My Crabs jersey is collecting dust. At this point I almost don't want him on the team. This is complete nonsense.

In many ways he's lucky we haven't taken our offer off the table. At this point I believe earlier reports that his agent (Parker) had secretly contacted the Niners and told them their offer was reasonable. Parker has a weird history, but at this point he'd be doing everything in his power to get his guy signed; his image as an agent is very important. If he's not signed before mid-season, it would be in our best interests just to trade his rights for a draft pick before the Draft. You know Jerry Jones would take it.

3 1st round picks (ours, Carolina's, someone else's) would be epic. At least Eric Berry would be a Niner.

Specific numbers aren't being thrown around by the Niners, they never negotiate in public.

I would think that he would be a 2nd or 3rd round pick next year plus the money he lost out on this year. His rap coming out of college was that we has in the T.O./Ochocinco mode in regards to his attitude. This would only give clarification to that speculation. Teams already know he is a pain in the butt to deal with plus alot of scouts thought he was just a product of the system at Tech.

There are also reports that Crabtree is now getting nervous after our win.

From PFT:
quote:

We're told that 49ers players who spoke with Crabtree after the game detected anxiety on his part, and there's now a sense that he might be getting ready to take the offer that the 49ers have left on the table throughout training camp and the preseason.

And Brandon Jones is coming back soon. If he's going to fold (which I think he eventually will), it will probably be soon. His final deadline to play in 2009 is November 17th.

He won't be able to talk to teams until Draft Day. Basically, he'll be cut off from the football world.

He'll sign, and I look forward to the hazing reports. Takeo and Willis won't be gentle.
