Oh and I totally think if he somehow goes into the Draft next year, we should draft him again in the 2nd or 3rd round for shits and giggles.

At this point I almost don't want him on the team.

This is the point I've gotten to. Could he help? Absolutely. But the Niners aren't going to win or lose games with the passing game, and I'm not sure he could come in at this point and produce more than Bruce, Morgan, Battle, Jones, etc. It's been handled poorly by Crabtree.

Out of curiosity, would the Niners get a compensatory pick in the 2010 Draft if he doesn't sign?

Sadly, it's against the rules.

What a dumbass.

His stock is dropping because he's not playing, and because now he's showing that he's difficult to sign. Next year he'll go a lot lower.

Nope, but he can be traded two weeks before the draft up until the day of the draft. I wouldn't be surprised to see the Niners get a low first for him.

Especially since the Raiders won't have a 1st round pick.

Link to that? I've never heard of such a rule, and I've been following these developments pretty closely.

As far as I know he re-enters the draft as if he was never drafted.

Anyone know what the sticking point is? Are they THAT far apart on terms?

Crabtree and agent Eugene Parker believe that as Crabtree was considered to be one of the top three prospects in the draft, he should be compensated as such. Despite the fact he was draft 10th. The Niners are offering a contract which is somewhere in between what Raji got at pick nine and Maybin got at eleven.

So unless one side budges, they're fricking miles apart.

Funny I didn't hear Parker's other top client, Tyson Jackson, clamoring to be paid in the 15-25 bracket where most predicted he would go. The Niners deal is reportedly worth $20m guaranteed.

Anyway, so that takes up to about last week, the negotiations have hit a major stumbling block. Then Deion Sanders, Crabtree's advisor, goes on NFLN, and claims that two other teams are willing to offer $40m (I assume this means guaranteed) and that Crabtree is fine financially.

There's two problems with this, first, if he is doing well financially, surely he realises even if he 'wins' these negiotations with the Niners, he's not gonna get more than a couple of million more out of it, so what's the fricking point? And secondly, HOW IN THE frick IS THAT NOT TAMPERING? He's not allowed to talk to other teams, although other teams can approach the Niners, they're obviously not going to tell him about it as that's not good negiotiating, so either A) Deion is full of shite (this is definitely true tbh), or B ) Deion is pimping Crabtree for a better deal. WTF? He's a fricking NFL employee. Goodell made it quite clear he couldn't give a shite on a Q and A session he did recently though so frick it. At least the person who comes out worst from this is Crabtee.

I'm convinced it's both.

Umm, it's actually the Niners boards, but I'll look it up and see if there's a proper link. Personally I would love it if we redrafted him.

If I were the 49er GM, I would REDUCE all sums in the contract by 1/16th, the amount of the regular season he has missed (maybe I would be generous and use 1/17). Next week, again. Sign or GTFO.

Is it hidden in the Red Zone? Or one of the formerly stickied Crabtree threads? Don't worry about it, I've just never heard about that in the hours and hours I spend on there. I don't see why such a rule would even be in place.

Couldn't find the link I was looking for. I might've imagined it (certainly wouldn't be unheard of).

Anyway, I did stumble across a couple of interesting reports over there.

This one from the very reliable Michael Silver

quote:

LINK
...
A team source says the 49ers are willing to give Crabtree incentives that push the deal “up to a dollar less” than the package the Packers gave ninth overall pick B.J. Raji(notes) (a reported five-year, $28.5 million pact with just under $18 million in guaranteed money), “but we won’t go over that. Otherwise, we’re going to have the same problem next year, and the year after that …” Team president Jed York, general manager Scot McCloughan and Singletary are uniformly supportive of holding the line, even if it means losing out on Crabtree altogether. They also rightfully believe that, with each missed game, his value to them (for this season, at least) is decreased on a prorated basis...

And this from the less reliable PFT

i just don't get it. He must know something we don't. How could he think he could make more money by sitting out a year.

I guess banking, interest rates, and wise investments are not something Mr crabtree considered, when thinking about the opportunity cost of sitting out an entire year of NFL and missing millions of dollars in salary.

Not only will he make far less per year, but losing a year of salary +interest is absurd.

i do not think the niners really need him anyways. Looked pretty good vs Az w/o him, and if they can win the NFC west and get hot in the playoffs, they can go far, like AZ did last year.

so dumb!!

I figured that he'd be offered very close to what Raji got.

I'm very happy the team is not going to give in. It's nice to have a competent FO once again. Glad they recognize how important it is for our future drafts to not break.

9ers should probably trade him when they can. Maybe the Giants?

The thing is, talent wise, there are lots of teams who'd like to have him.

Anyway, now Adam Schefter is reporting he's left the bay area. Whether that means he's left to visit somewhere else or packed his bags, I don't know, but I doubt he'd bother reporting it if he knew it to be the former.
