This just in, Coach Sarkisian is going to call the offense very agressively and "take chances in an effort to get a big play." LINK

quote:

“He’s going to call the offense very aggressive,” said UW running back Johri Fogerson, who faced Sarkisian’s USC offense while playing safety for the Huskies last season. “He coaches the offense like coach (Nick) Holt coaches the defense: really aggressive, keeping people on their toes, making people think a lot. He never shows too many things the same way. He’s a smart coach.”

I can't wait to see this!! I may be overly optimistic, but I think Locker will be running for his life!! And getting too aggressive on defense can blow up in their faces really quick, especially with all the play makers the Tigers will throw their way.

So you think this 0-12 team that is a 16 point home dog should just play it close to the vest?

I swear....given enough time...some of you guys can over-analize brown shoes vs. black shoes. Paralysis from Analysis.

I call this a refreshing change in contrast to Les' conservative vanilla offensive strategy.

You're right though. If you bet it all, you will lose it all, and fast. Still, it (the element of surprise) is the only card you have when facing a purple and gold juggernaut.

Good luck Tiger fans.

Yeah, that '07 offense that shattered many LSU school records was nothing but conservative & vanilla.

Last season, even with inexperienced QBs, LSU had both a RB & WR near the top of the SEC in production--can't be real conservative & vanilla when pulling that off.

Depends a lot on who your QB is. How much of a riverboat gambler do you think Urb will be once he has someone besides #15 as his starting QB?

I would expect our coaches to keep it pretty vanilla but I wouldn't call Lesticles conservative. He may go for it and convert more on fourth than any other coach- last year excluded.

Analysis? I don't see any "analysis" in my original post. It was just a comment about an article touting the fact that Sarkisian is an aggressive (and genius) coach and will call an aggressive game against the Tigers. Like that's going to be the difference between last year and this year.

Locker is a great QB and a serious threat, but he's not Tibow and won't (IMHO) win the game by himself. I look forward to seeing this match up - a new and untested Washington team looking to rebound from an 0-12 year, vs. the Tigers which will be fighting for respect as well after being their own worst enemy last year. (OK, so there's a bit of analysis!!)

And why not? They've got nothing to lose. I would be hesitant to show the Pac-10 my entire playbook, but, why not script a few trick plays/aggressive plays early and see how LSU's re-tooled defense reacts to it? It's probably the smartest way to approach the game.

Facing a heavily favored opponent at home, UW's best shot is to get an early lead. Failing that, keep it close and try to pull it out in the end. With their lack of success last season, it will be tough for UW to come from behind. Therefore, they can't really afford to be conservative.

It sounds like Sarkisian is going to play call similar to the Rose Bowl game last year between USC and Penn State. Carroll always forced Sarkisian to call conservative to keep the turnovers low and rely on their defense, but in the Rose Bowl, he let Sarkisian open up the offense and take a lot of shots down field. It was by far Mark Sanchez's best game passing of the year too. It will be interesting to see the results. I wish we could test out the offense against someone other than LSU to start the season though. We don't really have anything to lose because nobody is giving us a chance, so it wouldn't surprise me to see very aggressive play calling. Mine as well take the chance.

Isn't that what Bob Toledo and Tulane did in the first half of our '07 game with them? No matter, in the end I think we'll score more points than UW, that's all that matters.

you never know, playing aggressive helped Bama stay in the game with LSU a few years ago...JPW was something like 14-40 but had several big plays. OTOH, I'll certainly appreciate them throwing a lot of stuff at our D early.

Very good,You don't think they would just roll-over. I want them to test us,we can't have a paper Tiger going into the SEC schedule we have. Bring it on,would not expect less.

Heck, I think that's a smart strategy. Like our Husky friend said, They've got nothing to lose. It wouldn't surprise me if we didn't come out a bit tight insofar as soooooo much has been made of last year's failures. Hope they turn that not into a fear of losing again but a determination to beat every opponent by playing their best. If the former, it might take a while for LSU to get going & if UW makes a quick score or two...if the latter, UW will be just another defeated foe. I think with JJ's leadership & the fact that the guys have new coaches and renewed confidence...we're going to be fine this year. Maybe not a MNC, but I can see us in the SECCG just as clearly as Bama. Can't see OM because I've never seen OM in the SECCG! Now let's just do it!

Playing totally balls-out is UW's best and only shot at winning. Given the talent level gap, we can afford to play conservative, the Huskies not so much.
