I like the way this class is shaping up.

Filling holes is the key and i like where some of these project out.

Les Miles will always get his o lineman so i am not worried about that area.

We had a good oline year last year too.

If we can translate our talent to a good year on the field then the 2011 being strong makes me think we are gonna be in the hunt for a long time.

Coach Miles lets kick some SEC tail this year.

I agree. I'm trying not to get caught up in the whole stars issue this season. It's nice to see the coaching staff focusing on needs at this point. By February, there will be enough talent on the list to make the top 10-15 in the recruiting rankings. Depending on how things shape up, a Top 5 class isn't completely out of reach. Regardless, I think Tiger Fans will be pleased with the balance and depth of this team down the road, especially if we can sign a couple of solid DLs, RBs, and WRs.

Filling needs is definitely a nice way to spin our class at this point. Last year we were #2 in the nation as rated by ESPN......filling needs is important and chemistry is vital but STARS matter too.

On a positive note...Alabama was not even in the top 10 last year and they finished very strong. We still have a lot of time to finish with a very strong class! :)

This coming years first round pick was a three star (Ciron Black) out of high school.

I agree that talent is important but i think one of the factors often overlooked is heart and attitude.

I dont want a five star that is gonna be a head case and trouble.

I think most of us know the problems they can cause.

Give me guys that will be there and you can count on when the going gets tough.

Ill take a team full of Hesters. That 2 star is in the NFL now.

DB's - We just hired a new DC. Assuming our current players are what fits his system is like buying a cadillac and assuming the parts from your old Honda will fit.

Also, CB is a need for us. Phelon Jones just left and Peterson is likely to leave after his junior year, Vinson being recruited as a CB fills that nicely.

As for safeties, Hawkins and McCray are both seniors and Jones is a Junior.

WR's - There is certainly a hole there. Just because we took a great player last year, doesn't mean we didn't need more. WR is the only position that ever calls for 5 players on the field at once (With the exception of the Jack LB in Saban's 2-7 defense). Sure, Rueben Randle is a really great prospect, but we need 3 more players. Randle, Terrance Tolliver, Tim Molton, Chis Tolliver(?).

Fact is, Randle was the only pure WR we took last year. Maybe Claiborne or Calhoun will play WR, but they could just as easily play DB or RB (respectively).

Lafell, Chris Mitchell and R.J. Jackson are all seniors and Jared Mitchell is going to be playing pro baseball in the fall and Ricky Dixon transfeered. That's 2 receivers we lost this year and 3 that we will lose after next season. Also, Deangelo Peterson is projected to move to tight end.

You are forgetting that we are not recruiting for the upcoming season.

If you still disagree, where would you say our holes were?

QB - No.

RB - There is a hole there, but it's not like we aren't recruiting to fill it. (Already have one committed, one all but locked and still working on another)

OL - No. We had a gap, but Hardrick will fill it. We were weak at depth for center, but Fordham is filling that gap.

LB - No. We may not be as packed with talent at LB as many of us wish, but depth is not a problem.

DE - Mega Nay.

DT - Your only possible beef. We are a little thin at DT. However, we took downs and Davenport in last years class, and I feel relatively comfortable in those two players. I think we need to sign at least one solid DT in this class and we will be okay.

You scared me for a minute. I thought that there might have been some truth to the rumors that a brigade of the top LSU reserves were following Peveto to Northwestern State

I agree with your longer post. The 2009 class was great, but there was very little depth at CB, RB, and WR. On the other hand, there were 9 linemen (1 tackle, three guards, 2 defensive tackles, and 3 defensive ends). This class should shape up to have pretty much the opposite ratio. The only question mark so far is at running back, but it seems like there will be 1-2 running backs this year and probably 2-3 next year to create some depth.

I think Sidell Corley was moved to DT so yeah 1 or 2 DTs would do it this class.

You can play DB or you can't, thats all. Cooper has done well with DB's. We will be just fine. Check out his resume, its a good read.

I'm with Dad, Cooper has been raking out 1st round DB's and hand picking them for the last 5 years at South Carolina........If he likes a player then I like em; you know what I'm saying.

I hear you on Cooper.

I was more referring to Chavis and his LB/DB hybrid scheme.
