I am assuming he was given an offer? If so, then I agree.

I thought rockerbraves was also hell bent on signing 25 players from LA every class as well?

He must have won the David Pollack Award at camp.

I can think of worse things in life than being compared to a guy like David Pollack. I remember him as a "short" and 245ish DE. He also seemed to be up the QB's arse very frequently and always had a nose for the ball.

In the UGA media guide his SR year, he was listed at 6-3, 267#. (I'm pretty sure the SID feeling generous.) What cannot be disputed is that this "undersized" DE was Mr All Everything and was drafted #17 in the 1st round. I think some people get too hung up on "metrics"

Consider the possibility that this "too small and/or too slow" Bates kid can not only play, but may excel.

You made a decent post about David Pollack without saying the word "motor". I commend you sir.

Pollack & Bates both have "high motors", but its a tired cliche'.

I read a post about Bates looking "hyper" at LSU camp, which seemed to me to be an impolite way of saying "high motor". This kid is a long way from ADD.

I will say that in the games I've seen him play, he does not stop. The play can be going to the opposite side of the field and he is in relentless pursuit until the whistle is blown. (And sometimes after the whistle, which has led to the occasional personal foul penalty. But the victim knows Houston is coming again on the next play, and he doesn't want anymore of THAT!)

This kid likes to hit HARD!!!

if a kid (a) doesn't have a high motor, (b) isn't "angular", or (c) isn't a "natural athlete", and plays defensive end, what is he?

Have we ever encountered such a species?
