I'm planning on making Jambalaya for a crowd in a few weeks. My Jambalaya normally turns out pretty good, but the meat (read: sausage) selections up here suck. I need a few recommendations for good quality meat purveyors in Louisiana that will ship to me in Yankee land.
Any help would be appreciated.
Sorry, I did not do a search...too busy at the moment.

Jacob's is the best, they ship at no additional charge from them, you only pay the shipper:

Thanks. I'll check them out. It's been too long since I've had the good stuff. I can find good Italian meats up here, but most of the smoked sausage and similar-type items are the mass produced, high fructose corn syrup containing nastiness.

Try Chorizo.
Thanks. I have, and it's not bad. I've also found a "Cajun Andouille" made in California that is not too bad either. I'm just craving a little slice of home for this batch.

Gotcha. I think the Jacob's is a good choice.

Yes, Jacobs is your best bet for shipping. when i was up there i used them without problems.
I also tried cajungrocer.com and it was fine, but the product from Jacob's is superior.
there are a few meat markets in NYC that do carry "cajun style sausages". I think this is one i tried. I was not great, but it was serviceable.

finally, some cajun style restaurants can be open to selling you some andouille. I know Oddfellow's in Hoboken will do this if you approach them correctly. You will pay for it, but in a crunch it's better than Hillshire Farm.

i've ordered from both jacob's and cajungrocer.com; i place a couple of orders a year and have never had a problem getting the the goods on time and in perfect condition.
with jacob's you are definitely getting a better product. i order from cajungrocer.com more often than not because their shipping charges are MUCH cheaper than jacobs. it costs me 100% more in shipping charges to order from jacobs than from cajungrocer.com.
i realize that jabob's is not up-charging on the shipping but clearly, at least in my experience, cajungrocer.com is getting a better rate on their shipping charges.
in any event, the quality of sausage i get from both of them is WAY higher than anything i can get up here.

definitely true. If you order Jacob's, go ahead and order a lot and freeze b/c the cost doesn't justify a small order.
